My 97 trans am convertible is black, black top, and tan interior...I don't very much like the tan interior and was hoping for a black/red scheme. I found some red and black leather racing seats with 4 point harnesses (safer feeling with the lack of a top) and I dyed my carpet black (I would recommend this method to anyone, just ask how I did it if interested) But in order for everything to match my new interior, I need everything new....door panels, center console (I don't think they make them black.)
Has anyone used interior paint and did it work? My dad thinks that even once it dries, if something scratches it, the paint will come off; and how could you re-upholster the fabric of the door panel?
Is any of this possible?
Thanks

I can get some pics up
First step was finding a few days I didnt need the car (or at least with interior)
I pulled all of the interior out; Seats, Seat Belts, rear seat unit, reas seat cushions, center console, and running board pieces.
Then I proceeded to, dont remember if it was connected or just pulled out, but pull the entire carpet out. Kind of difficult since at least on a convertible it is one piece.
Next step is to scrub the carpet down, getting it really clean (I rinsed with a power washer) and let dry about a day
While I was waiting I went to my local Rite Aid and cleaned their stock of liquid black fabric dye. about $20 worth.
The next day I used my leaf blower to make sure the carpet was completely dry.
Set it up on 2 saw horses and put half the dye in a cup, and the other half in a spray bottle (you might need a few since the dye eventually gunks the nozzle up) My dad went to town spraying as much of the carpet as he could, and I went behind him with the cup of dye and a sponge and rubbed in all of the missing spots, and evening the dye out. You gotta work pretty fast depending on the environment and how fast the dye will dry.
You gotta use some elbow grease and rub the dye in a much as you can.
Then repeat the drying process. It should be dry in about a day and the leaf blower does work too.
I was hasty and threw it right back into the car but i would give it a few days to sit and completely adhere to the carpet fabric.
Ill get some pics up and show you how good it actually looks. Darkens the interior A LOT!
