I was thinking about my next mods to do, and I was thinking about getting Mac or Pacesetter LT and ORY, and get a 231/237 cam. Oh, and ofcourse, a dyno tune. I figured this, on top of my current mods would easily get me over the 450rwhp mark on my DD. What do you think? Is this and ok idea? The mods I currently have are pretty basic... Upgraded pulleys, MTI Clear Air lid, K&N air filter, Corsa catback, ported TB, smooth bellows, and a chip. My friend told me about some mufflers by a company called Cherrybomb. Idk if I should switch out my Corsa muffler for that though. Also, how much hp and tq would this put me at if you were to guess?

i have no idea about anything else you said, but cherrybomb = pwnage. they were HUGE back when muscle cars ruled the streets, my dad always talks about how he put them on all of his muscle (ex:69 charger, 66 camaro etc...) they basically make an awesome, clear, loud and ballsy sound. get them if you can

When doing a Cam swap in an LS1 it's always a good idea to get a new timing chain and an Oilpump since it has to be removed anyway. Also make sure you have matched valvesprings and new pushrods aswell. If your an Auto you may want to look into a stall convertor to get that cam into the powerband faster.
BTW most Cam only LS1's Dyno closer to 400 RWHP. Don't be fooled by the big numbers game either. Dyno numbers don't mean much. dyno's are tools for tuning nothing more.

On the cherry bombs, back in the day I had a ""73 Nova with a 307 ci smog ( DOG) !! motor bone stock. Being 16 at tne time the first thing I did was to have Tuffy muffler shop install a dual exhaust with 3 " header pipe welded on cherry bombs with ford falcon tailpipes over the rear axle. When they let it down and I fired it up everyone's like WOW!! that sounds good, and loud. Fooled a lot of people into thinking it had more than what it had, got a few races, won some lost more laugh.gif but it was fun. The cool thing being a glass pack muffler, after 3 or 4 years the packihg blew out making them louder still! I would highy recommend them. Dave

i wouldn't put a cherrybomb on, especially since you are planning to throw on LT's and an ORY AND a cam. That thing is going to be so loud that you'll get tickets every day for it. The corsa will sound awesome with that setup i'm sure. I would wait and put those mods on first, see how it sounds, then go from there. As for the list of mods, definitely looks good. You would probably dyno around 400rwhp, maybe a tad bit lower. I have a friend with pretty much that exact setup and he did 395rwhp through a M6. So an auto will dyno lower also...but as 9T8W66 said, the numbers really dont mean squat. It's just for tuning.

One thing i would add to that list that is the LS6 intake. It wakes the car up about as much (possibly even more) than the LT's will.

I don,t see where a cherry bomb would be any louder thah a loudmouth muffler with the same set up, I do know that sound regulations vary between differant states and municipalities, but if you were cool with it, ei.. no w.o.t. around cops etc you would be allright. Heck around here we have semi.'s with straight pipes( trucker friend has one for 8 years now, running in a lot of different states, no tickets so far, Harleys running loud pipes, whens the last time you heard a quiet hog?!! Ricers with crappy sounding fart cans, loud radically sounding classic muscle cars,etc... no problems. My point is I think that the law is more liberal with sound enforcement now than what they were in the "70's. Except maybe in California. laugh.gif Owning one of our cars is a risk in itself... the temptation to street race, top end runs, doing burnouts, it all comes with the territory. I say slap on the classic sounding cherry bomb, have your fun but be smart and controlled with it and above all safe. Dave

Oh yeah i hear what you're saying Blu, I mean I have a loud car myself with my setup. And you are right, a loudmouth with the same setup will sound equally as loud. BUT i can tell you, i have a friend with pretty much those exact cam specs, the Loudmouth and Longtubes with an Off Road Y, and that thing is SO SO loud it's actually quite unbearable. And this is coming from a guy who LOOOOVES loud cars/trucks/bikes. My friend who owns it is the same way (he wanted it to get as loud as possible) and he's actually going to switch off the loudmouth for something quieter just because it's near impossible to carry a conversation or listen to the radio...and talking on the phone is a complete joke. He also complains about the headaches too haha. I just think that for a DD car, that setup may drive him crazy after a while...

On the other hand, exhausts and loudness of cars is subjective amongst everybody, and everybody likes something different. So if you're fine with it, that's great! As for me, i LOVE loud, but you've gotta draw the line somewhere IMO haha.

Oh another thing i wonder about....do they make cherry bomb exhausts for these cars? I guess you would have to just buy the muffler and then weld it on somewhere haha.

OMG Cherrybombs's

Are you kidding me ?

I used two cherrybombs attached to my headers to break in the cam on my old `79 Trans Am.
But for my regular exhaust I used an H pipe, a pair of 40 series flows and SE splitters.

Seriously though you could replace the resonator on a loudmouth system with a cherrybomb and it would probably be a tad quieter, that is untill the glass packing gets blown out.

Anyway the problem with this is that most peple with long tubes ORY's and no muffler systems encounter the dreaded rasp sound. And rasp is what makes the exhaust sound so annoying.
JMO but I would rather lose a few HP with a muffled system that sounds better.

Myself I have a 3.5" single out Mufflex system with a Flowmaster 30 series Race Muffler.
It's relatively quiet at idle, at WOT though the sound it emits is awesome.

I enjoy the sound of my Borla. It doesnt sound like most other performance exhausts such as magnaflow or flowmaster.

Would I gain any more hp or tq. if i also installed a 2800 stall?

Nope. In fact you would lose HP numbers on the dyno. This doesn't mean that your car would be less powerful cause those dyno numbers are just for tuning, but a stall only help to get your car into it's powerband quicker. Meaning you'll be in your RPM's quicker where all the horsepower is...you wont actually gain any horsepower though...just using it more often (if that makes sense)

if im not mistaken stall converters let you, on auto cars, hold the brake and throttle longer without the trans engaging and turning the wheels. It is the closest thing an auto has to a manual jump at high rpms. I know my auto when i power brake to get a better start, i can only get into the low 2000 rpms but with a 2800 stall you will be able to hold still until 2800 rpms before the wheels begin to turn. That means you are in a higher hp range at the git go. you know when you hear those alcohol dragsters hold at the line at like 5000 rpms then jump off the line at like 500 mph? you will be able to hold until 2800 and you will have more hp and torque at the wheels.
