I'm seriously considering buying some ZR1 rims (black with polished lip) for my car. I think it will go well with my red/black theme i'm trying to go with. Honest opinions guys...i'm a bit hesitant to put black rims on a red car...but i know somebody who lives close by me who will sell them to me for $275 with tires already on them. Pic of my car is in my sig...use your imagination and leave honest feedback! Thanks guys!!

Dude ##### yeah!!! If the ZR1 rims that I am thinking have the solid 5 spoke then yes. Just look up ZR1 rims on google and you'll see some TAs with that. I think it would look awesome. And for the price, why is he selling them so cheap?
MasterTomos
Dec 1 2008, 06:29 AM
Ive got regular ZR1 rims and I really like the style of them, but I am not a fan of black rims at all. To me it looks like theres hub caps missing...they look OK clean, but they never are(i geuss it depends on how really really anal you are and if its your DD or not...)Thats a great buy though, at the very least Id buy them and sell them and put them towards something else...Id pick chrome over black chrome anyday....and i hate polished lips...those 17s will make the car look like it sits closer to the ground, but theyll look like 15 inch rims...that darker color on a lighter colored car just doesnt look right to me...
my buddy has a 98 c5 vette thats fire engine red and he had 18 inch black z06 rims and he did away with them after a few months...
Id sell em and put it towards sum Torq thrusts or something chrome and 5 spoke...
I had a similar story, I got 2 17x11.5 and 2 11x9 Chrome ZR1 rims with the tires and a used K&N CAI for $300 from my buddy...haha

Yeah it is an unbelievable price and that's why I am considering it so much. I think i am going to do it, and the only reason for that is that these rims don't really seem to depreciate in value that much. As long as they look nice, you can sell them for a little below the price of brand new usually. As for keeping them clean, i am INCREDIBLY anal about having a clean car, and if those things showed the slightest sign of dirt on them, then i would be out there washing them up. I am definitely going to keep my WS6 rims, and if it turns out i don't like the black ones, i plan to sell them (most likely for more than i paid since i am getting them for so cheap) and put them towards rims i REALLY want...like some TTII's
MasterTomos
Dec 1 2008, 05:45 PM
TTIIs would look sick good on your car, and youre right, they dont depreciate much...popular rims dont depreciate much at all...
IM super anal about my car being clean too, my t top holder is filled with cleaning products...tire foam, chrome polish, wax, soap, claybars, shammys, EVERYTHING u could think of...but my rims get dust and spots on them everytime i drive them...its just how it is...not much u can do but clean them all the time and i cant imagine black chrome would be too fun too keep clean...
be sure to post some pics!

I dunno guys i think i'm gonna pass on this one...One thing that i really wanted was to have some 315's on the back of my car, and these are 17x9.5's all the way around. I think i'm gonna hold off and save for some TTM's or TTII's in polished or chrome.

IMO the American Racing Rims in chrome would make your car look much better...
prolly wouldnt hurt to buy those black zr1s tho...u could at least sell em on ebay or craigslist and make sum money

If you ended up doing that balck out rear bumper thing....I havent been on in a while...then I think the black rims would be sick. THE PRICE is ridiculous! buy them just for that. I bought some chrome OEM rims from a junk yard for 150 and they had one scratch on them. Then I painted my old alloys black and put them on when i want to play around. The black rims give it a meaner look. The chrome rims give it a cleaner look. Since you have clean rims, and the black ones have tires on them...BEST of both worlds. And the black would look sick with the red combo. I want to do the opposite of you with black being dominant.
What Im trying to say is get them or i will haha

I actually just found a guy close to me selling a set of TTII's with tires already mounted on them. He is asking 600+ shipping costs. I offered $525 to see if he'll go that low, and since i live close by, i told him i could pick them up to save him the hassle of shipping them. These are what i REALLY wanted for my car, so I think these are what i'm going to go with.

Well we settled on a price. $575 for 4 American Racing Torq Thrust II's (Polished) with Sumitomo tires on all 4. One of the tires is worn pretty bad, so i'll have to take the rear tires off my current rims and put them on the TTII's. Not a big deal though.
Does this sound like a good deal to you? I know it isn't near as good as $275 for the ZR1's, but these are the rims i REALLY want.

They are the same size as the WS6 rims. So the tires will go right on. 17x9.5's all the way around

Sadly, yeah i have seen them. Gross for sure....and yeah the decision was hard, but once i sat back and looked at what i REALLY wanted, it was pretty easy. TTII's all the way!!!! I'm gonna be picking them up tomorrow and i'll have pics up by the afternoon.

thatll look sick dude!!
im anxious to see pics
btw i notced the comment on the youtube video about the door switches...theyre way cheap, I had them installed with my oil change and it was like 30 bucks for the parts and install, a few seconds to install...definately makes the interior look sooo much better...is your dash cracked too?
Freshbake
Dec 3 2008, 09:35 AM
yeah the install is a piece of cake, it's just i've been kinda lazy to buy the part. It's just the housing part, not the actual buttons. Plastic piece broke right off...and yes my dash is cracked thanks to the nice hot sun over the summer. (that's what i get for not having a car-shade). For X-mas i plan to get a dash mat cover to cover it up, with a WS6 emblem stitched in the fabric over the passenger air bag.
let me know what you think:
http://www.carmotorsports.com/images/Dash_...rs/WS6_2-lg.jpghttp://www.carmotorsports.com/images/Dash_...rs/WS6_1-lg.jpgNot the most eye-appealing thing out there, but it sure beats a cracked dash, and i'm not ready to shell out $200+ for a new one. The covers only run about 80 bucks.
But yeah, picking up these rims i'm really looking forward too...it's the only thing keeping me from going off the deep end right now. Tonight, i found out that my girlfriend of 4 years (she's 20 years old, i'm 21) cheated on me with her 42 year old fire lieutenant for the volunteer firehouse she works at. He's married and has 2 kids. So yeah....right now things are pretty crap for me, so these rims should help cheer me up.
I never have to worry about my car being unfaithful to me. That's why she's my #1

Did you ask them to do a static balance? (that means all the weights are on the inside lip so you cant see them)
I made sure to have them do it so there isnt any weights making the outside of my wheel lookin like crap...shouldnt cost anymore... just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for wheel to have them balanced and mounted?

hahaha you guys are cracking me up!
I got the rims on the car, but i was unable to take pics cause Goodyear took FOREVER to get it finished and i was an hour and a half late for my night class at school...so i didn't have time. Plus it was dark out. I'll get some shots of them tomorrow...they look really awesome on the car. I am so glad i held out and got these, they are just so much more stylish than the ZR1's...they are too similar to the stock WS6 rims. These TTII's are hot for sure.
I'll get pics up tomorrow, i promise!
Oh and Tomos, the total rang up for everything came to $150. My lock nuts were screwed up so they replaced them with standard lugs for free, and i did ask them to put the weights on the inside of the rims so i can't see them. I would hate to put them on the outside, it's so ugly. This price included the following:
Remove tires from the 4 WS6 rims (these were the tires i wanted to go on the TTII's)
Remove tires from the 4 TTII rims (they were trashed)
Mount and balance the 4 tires from the WS6 rims onto the TTII's
totaly of $150 for everything.

Dec 4 2008, 06:31 AM
Not bad for the price. Those rims must be looking really good making you lose concentration at school. Do you have security lug nuts for them?
Freshbake
Dec 4 2008, 02:46 PM
I do have security lugs for them, but the idiots at Goodyear couldn't figure out how to get them on correctly. The key gets stuck on the locking nuts, you just need to know how to mess with it. THey are a pain cause i think they are a bit stripped, but not in the way where you cant get them off..it's that the key takes a lot of force to get on the lug. I am going to order new lugs and chrome caps anyways, cause i can't stand seeing my plastic black caps on them from my old rims. Makes me wanna barf...haha
I am goign to get pics up in about an hour or so

Dec 4 2008, 06:19 PM

LOOOOVE it, cant wait to see it all polished up...
I found sum great stuff at a truck stop called "white diamond chrome polish"
try to find some, its runny like water, and takes about a tear drop amount to do half a rim! and I mean REALLY do half a rim....its like $14 a bottle tho...
worth every penny to me

(reminds me, I still need to put pics up of my new rims...)

Happy to see chrome instead of black thumbs up man

Haha thanks man, glad to hear that they look good and i made a good choice over the black rims. Definitely get some pics of your wheels up! It's funny how this thread started as a ZR1 rim thread and it turned into something completely different...haha I hijacked my own thread! Anyways, sadly, the rims are actually polished aluminum, not chrome. Same as my WS6 rims, so they never will shine quite like chrome. I dont really mind that though, i like the metal look over the chrome look, but i will polish these up to really shine. If i need help, one of my good friends is the owner of a business that polishes and restores rims haha. I'm sure he can work some magic on them.
Oh and another thing that i really like about these rims is that they allow for you to see more behind the rims. Like, the calipers show a lot more along with the rotors. It looks so much better...but now i need to repaint my red calipers. haha! That's on my "to do" list now.

chrome, polished aluminum...whatever it is...as long as you can make em shiney, I dont care!!!

-mine are polished aluminum as well....
I FINALLY have a day off tomorrow and if I can get myself up in the morning, I am going to go take of my rear rims and leave my car on jackstands for the day...Im gunna polish them babies UP! Im gunna do the front two at some point as well, but i only have 2 jackstands... :/

Finally!!

your car looks even more aggressive dude. Really good choice on the rims I have to say, truly nice choice. There's just no words for those rims. get up to a really good shine I bet they'll look better. I know what you mean about your lug nutz now, i would hate that too. Definitely get hold of some chrome ones and don't forget security ones too.

Dec 7 2008, 09:24 AM
I kept my stock lug nuts with the little black caps...I armoralled them up and made em shiney pitch black, I really like them cuz it makes the rims look like "theyre supposed to be there"-makes it looks more factory to me, but flashy as well...

I took my rear rims off my car last night and polished them UP today! They are lookin like mirrors, and Im gunna go fetch the front ones tomorrow I think...Ill put some pictures up of my formy (sitting in the garage) when I get the other rims polished up...

Awesome man! Definitely get some pics up on here when you finish them all up! I can't wait to see them! And I gotta say putting armorall on the caps to make them shine...great idea. I would do that, but they just dont go with my rims. Also, i was thinking about replacing the center caps on my rims with some newer styled ones.

Dec 9 2008, 08:12 PM
I dont think I need the lugs, mainly the chrome caps for them...but i can't seem to find just the caps, so i found a set made by SLP with chrome lugs and caps for about 30 bucks...may just order those and be done with it. And yeah, TTII's are on lots of our cars, but that's mainly on forums. Around where i live, i dont even see any T/A's or Camaro's, and those that i DO see never have TTII's...in fact i have the only set i've seen in town for as long as i can remember....plus i think they are sweet looking and i am happy with them, :-)
As for my stock rims, I dont really know what to do with them. I can't see myself ever putting them back on the car but then again i dont think i could get much for them if i sold them either. I may just hang onto them IN CASE i ever sell the car, then i can sell the TTII's seperately and make a bit more money.
