I just noticed the website ranking type thing on the left hand toolbar on the forums sayng like "shop janitor" "tire Changer" "Master technician" ect.

what decides this rank? Number of posts or what?

Yes, it's based on the number of posts. I don't remember what the thresholds are but I think there's a thread around here where they're explained.

Shaun is correct, the "rankings" are based on the number of posts a person has.

Here's a listing of what each rank is and the post counts for each:

Orientation 0 - 24
New Hire 25 - 49
Shop Janitor 50 - 99
Tire Changer 100 - 249
Oil Changer 250 - 399
3rd Class Tech 400 - 599
2nd Class Tech 600 - 799
1st Class Tech 800 - 999
Master Technician 1000 +
