I added Hooker Headers to my LT1, and since then there has been a loud ticking. Anyone else have this noise?
Tyler
Check all the flang bolts. An exhaust leak there can sound just like a tick.

Yep. After a header install, you should always drive it around through a few heat cycles then go back and retighten the header bolts. Try doing that, and then also check all the connecting pipes at the flange. Mine were lose and i had the ticking as well.

Yep very loud tick. I will have to check that soon and get back. Hopefully those loose bolts have not caused any damage.
Freshbake
nah they shouldn't have caused any damage at all. It's just annoying to listen to while driving haha.

Did you install them yourself? What a hassle huh, the same thing is waiting for me down the road. What brand gasket did you use?
Freshbake
Yep installed them myself with a few helping hands. It was a pain for sure, but i heard that if you can do a LT header install (SLP's especially) than you can do anything to these cars. I used FelPro gaskets. Cheap, but they work great.

I dont know about yours, but the most annoying part of mine is the fact that the bolts are right next to the pipes which means there is no room to tighten or loosen. UGH. Why meeeee! heh.

The ticking is much more quiet now. Woo Hoo. One bolt seemed to be stripped. I will have to do something about that.

I'd reccomend Stage 8 locking header bolts...I know they have them on ws6project.com

theyre like $45 and they work awesome-It's not uncommon for these darn bolt to rattle out and become loose, obviously not good for your gaskets.

I bought my car with bbk shorties on it, and within a few months i had a bad exhaust leak between the cylinder head and the header...one of the bolts acutally broke off into the cylinder head wacko.gif let me tell ya, gettin that bugger out of there wasnt fun....but i took them all out, replaced the gaskets and put in those locking header bolts...

Anyway...look into those locking header bolts, they work awesome!

Mine said "Ford SVO"(-yes SVO, not SVT) on the package they came in, but theyre pretty much universal.

I cant pass inspection cuz of this same problem... it is ridiculous cuz you gotta take all the accessories off to tighten, put them back on to see if you got it, more than likely not, only to have to redo all of....haha
DONT GET SHORTIES FOR LT1!!!!! hahaha, the designer was asleep when he drew them up...
