Whats goin on Flaming Chicken lovers? I've recently had an issue with my beast. I was getting off I-95 on my way home and it felt like my shift lever assy. disconnected when I was down-shifting. The clutch feels nice and tight, like normal, and you can't pull the stick up or push it in. When it happened it didn't seem catastrophic or anything like that, but you can move the stick all over the place. Oh, bye the way, I wasn't hotroddin around either. I hit the off ramp at about 70 in 5th, shifting into 4th is when it happened. It didn't make any noise or anything, the gears just disappeared. A few tips would be greatly appreciated...

Check the tranny mount. One of the weak spots on our cars. Using a pry bar, see if the trans is loose on the mount. If so install an aftermarket polyurtherine one, much stronger than oem.

Check the shift lever to make sure it's still connected to the shifter cause maybe the rubber isolator is torn ? If nothing appears to be wrong with the shifter you'll need to remove it from the trans for further investigation. It sounds like the shifter itself is broke but it could be the ball cup/rail assembly, if that's the case it may get expensive.
BTW I've never really heard of any similar issues from any M6 Owners. The T56 has been well known as a pretty stout transmission.

I'm thinking shifter to. You will need to pull the center console out and unbolt the shifter plate from the transmission. Dont worry, nothing will run out although the base of the shifter may drip some fluid. There is a rectangular block with a plastic cup down in there. There should be a ball on the shifter that fits into the cup. Hopefully it's broken off or the shifter is screwed up. If thats not it ,the transmission will need to come out. I doubt it's that bad though. Buy a good Hurst shifter or equivilant if you have to replace it.

I wish I could help you, but unfortunately I just dont know much about the 6 Speeds.
The MAIN reason I am posting is because i noticed you said I-95. You live literally right down the street from me...I'm in Fairfax. Never seen anybody on the source even in my state hahaha! I use I-95 every day. Hopefully i'll bump into you sometime!

But even if the mount is broken it should still shift.

Problem solved fellas. Thanx for the intel. What it ended up being was the lower bolt that connects the shift lever to the lever assy. rattled it's way loose. And yes, the tranny mount needs to be replaced so that may be the cause of what rattled it loose. That was too easy! I'm a little embaresed... This website rocks!! Where else can you go where you have so many experts just giving their knowledge away? Thats right, Da'Source. Hey Freshbake, if you live in the area of WakeFeild Park I think I may have seen you a few times. I mountain bike there on a regular basis. Of course I'd be in my truck when I go up there though. Every time I see a Flamin' Chicken I get a little excited. Cars like ours don't blend in with the rest. I'll have my eyes out! Anyway, thanx again everyone.
