I just had a transgo stage 2 kit installed! It shifts hard a dramatic improvement! But now the car starts out in 2nd gear all the time unless i manually put the shifter in 1st and start! has aanyone ever heard of this? My mechanic says its normal and even said these cars do that stock from the factory to save gas! I told him my car never did that before and he said someone modified it to start in 1st! I'm pretty sure he's pulling my chain on this one! Does anyone know about this? Or what he may have done wrong to cause it? The car downshifts quick and halls ###### when u punch it if your rolling slow it will downshift to first when you punch it! But always starts in 2nd unless the shifter is in 1st! Can anyone offer me any knowledge on the subject??? THANKS,STEVE

Im not certain, however, I do recall reading something in the owners manual about automatics(assuming yours is an auto) and that someitmes they start in 2nd gear...perhaps something to do with the transmission perform button...Id look but i dont have my owners manual handy...its 15 miles away in my car

No,the car should take off in 1st gear. He probably does not know what to do so he's making that up. If you have traction control make sure it's off. You might call TransGo and ask their techs whats going on. Those firm shifts feel good,dont they!

After contacting transgo, i took the car back to my mechanic! Long story short he fixed it ! It operates perfectly now and i'm loving it!it's hard to get the grin off my face every time i drive it! definitely the best $240.00 i ever spent on the car!!! That's $90 for the kit and $150 for installation. I highly recommend it to anyone out there with the automatic transmission !!! STEVE

Sounds good man, glad you got it all fixed up. Too bad you didn't throw in a decent stall while they were doing that! Then that thing would really move out! I think a stall may be my next mod along with some 3.73's, mainly cause i want to get cammed pretty soon and before that i want to have the stall and gears to compliment the cam.
