Ok first a little back ground,
As some of you know I'm a Veteran Street Racer and I have always made it a point to educate young people on the do's and don'ts of Stoplight Shootouts. My Street Racing hints sticky is part of that experience. Anyway I've actually been really well behaved for the last few years. But I've been razzed by friends on how little I actually push my car. So A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to smoke someone who always thought He could best me.

It's late October and a few of our normal Woodward crew hit the Scene for a last gasp of the year. We had approx 25 cars show up at our normal hangout. Well after sitting for a couple hrs we decided to head to a local Buffalo Wild Wings. On the way there I was lined up at a light against a friend of mine in a `97 30th Anniversary SS Droptop. It's a well running LT1 Auto with 3.42's a LT4 Hotcam kit 1.6 rockers and Longtubes. Since doing the mods the car has dropped 11 tenths and gained 3 mph at the track. Problem is he's still 3 tenths slower them my personal best and I never push the car as hard at the track as I do on the street.
Anyway were lined up and like I said it's late Oct and the cool temps make for good HP but bad traction. So I stage the car at around 2K rpm so I don't completely blow the tires off. He hears me do this and torques his car up to about 1500 rpm. Light turns green and I walk out the clutch and then go to WOT Well the tires begin to spin but not horribly but he's almost sideways coming out of the gate and has to back out slightly. When I hooked I ultimately pulled on him about 4 cars by the end of 3rd gear, but he had let out long before then.
We get the Restaurant and he gets out of the car wearing his racing helmet saying he wants a rematch we all laugh and he says he's never seen me launch the car that hard before, I told him I figured I could abuse the Original clutch a little more before it gets replaced this winter.

Sorry to highjack the thread, but thinking of Woodward Ave. brought back a fine memory I'd like to share. It was about 1973 and I had an Aunt & Uncle that lived in Detroit that we would visit. One nice sunday in the summer we were there and my cousin Alvin had a 1970 Camaro built 327, 4 spd. M-22 Rockcrusher, 4:10 rear etc..., his ''fun car''. He also had a new 1973 Camaro 350 Auto all stock, his DD. He say's come on, lets go for a ride. We drove over to Woodward Ave. He explained some of it's history to me along the way and from there all I remember was a lot of tire smoke, speedshifting( no clutch) , WOT runs and being pinned back in the seat most of the time! Found no races that day but had a lot of fun. After IMO too short of a time we go back to his house and take his DD for a ride. Cool car in it's own right but NOTHING like the "70 Camaro. Now being 15 at the time
, and had just got my Temps, I was impressed! Went away with a smile on my face and a love for GM's that has never left me . Aldo that same year my Dad bought his first Chevy He'd ever owned a 1973 Nova, that became my first car when He passed away in "75. Looking back, F bodies have always been killer cars, and will continue to be in the future. Thank's Guys for listening to me relive my past. Dave.
