I am contumplating a temporary side exhaust setup for my car to see how I like it for the spring...

I was thinking headers to the cutout, thru a y pip and one out each side in front of the rear tire with some decent tips...

Ive seen on somebody's sig pic on here they have side exhaust, but cant seem to find him to ask about his setup...

I was just wondering about clearance issues and if there is a good way to run it if any...

Don't do that... just my humble opinion ninja.gif

There isn't a good way to do it, there will be ground clearance issues, and f-bodies are just not side exhaust cars cool.gif

Agreed. I wouldn't do it. You will have clearance issues definitely. If you think about the way the underside of our car is constructed, you can understand why the y-pipes all merge at the passenger side and run along the driveshaft. The driveshaft and the Torque Arm all sit low enough where you will have to run those pipes VERY low to cross them over to the other side, and the body of the car doesn't have a valley where an exhaust pipe can run along on the drivers side. You will scrape on everything haha, ask the people who have true dual setups tp give you an idea!

I know its a crappy setup for side pipes, but id like to run a straight pipe for a while before i get the cash for a GMMG setup. Id rather the inside of my car not get filled with exhaust in traffic and in town and usually when a straight comes out the back, theres a drone off the rear quarters it seems...just the way the sound echos...

you can do true side pipes if you want. I saw a 98 trans am with side pipes coming out of the ports just behind the front wheel wells. It looked like and old old corvette with the pipes running below the doors. Completely ridiculous but somethin you can look into haha

I wouldn't do it either. Besides fitment issues that were discussed before, it might be illegal in your area. Certain states don't allow for the exhaust to exit anywhere on a car besides where it does from the factory (ie out the rear of the car as on our cars). I just don't want you to get into any trouble with your car or to get any tickets for having an illegal exhaust set up. cool.gif

well I think it would look alright but do some preliminary sketches or something. You really don't see any side exhaust on F-bodies but you can start a trend maybe. Did you mean to integrate the exhaust pipe through the sideskirt cutting off without a protrusion or have it sticking out a little? Consider how the rear of your bird would look like...naked. There's just something about the exhaust that makes it look awesome when it's at the back.

I looked at a few things and thought about trans am side skirts cut at the end with a few different side tips(i think they where used on the Mustang GT-R concept.) But all and all i just want something loud and obnoxious for a make shift. So if theres not really a good, cheap way to do it, I'll probably just cut off the muffler and let it run out over the rear axel to where the muffler would have been.

If you want something loud and obnoxious you could always just get a cutout. I am not sure i would remove the muffler. On my 95 Formie, when i was swapping the exhausts, i drove it around before i put the new catback on just for funsies, and it sounded awful IMO haha. A cutout doesn't cost much and you can switch it back and fourth...it will help you keep out of trouble with "the fuzz" as well

if you live in a rural community cut the cat. idk honestly though on these cars how that works out so don't do it without a lil research. my grand am acted fine without one but all cars are different. side exhaust would be a pain. heat may ruin your side skirts
MasterTomos
I already have a cutout...as for chopping off the muffler, my buddy did it on his 96 Z28 and it sounded good enough for what it was.

Im not sure, we'll see. But Im probably going to run a straight pipe for a bit till i save enough for GMMG smile.gif
