Hello all! I'm hoping I can get some suggestions for my problem. I have a 1998 Pontiac Firebird V6 3.8L, that has always had a little heat coming out from the floor vents except when the air conditioner was on. In October 2008 a hose broke and my car got really hot but didn't overheat. Of course when I noticed the temp going up, I turned on the heat until I got to a safe place to stop. I replaced the hose and added fluid. Right after that happened, I had a stronger airflow from the floor vents that gets really really hot and burns my feet after I've been driving for awhile. This happens when the HVAC controls are all in the off position. When I turn the HVAC controls on to turn on the air conditioner, I can hear the air conditioner kick on but I still get warm air when I first start the car and then it continually gets hotter. I took off temp control knob to make sure it wasn't stuck on warm and it is fine. The controls seem to all be working properly. Even when the temperature control is on the blue for cool, I still get hot air from whatever vent position I put it on. I don't smell anything either like exhaust or fumes. When I put the temp on warm, I think it is working but since it's always blowing hot air, how would I really know? This isn't a big deal right now b/c of the winter but summer will be here soon and I don't want to sweat to death! Could it be a failed thermostat? Any ideas? Thanks all!
