Noticed on Bfranker's website that tiny little worthless backseat in our cars weighs 29 or 30 lbs...
I never use it, and many times just have it folded down...nobody hardly ever sits back there...I might as well just take it out if it weights that much...has anybody done this or have pics of it? I'm worried about how it might look is the only thing...otherwise it might be comin out of there, at least for the track!
takin out the back seat, spare tire, and jack would be in the neighborhood of 70lbs of lost weight! not to mention leavin the gas tank about half or a 1/4 full, you could easily shave off 100 lbs (or .1 seconds) of your normal weight before you go to the strip!

It's not hard to take them out at all, just a few bolts. I took mine out about a year ago when i was doing a complete carpet cleaning. I usually have my back seat down too, cause it makes it easier to store things back there like backpacks for school or whatever. Also, i use it to cover up my GPS that i put in the seat and then put the backrest overtop of it! I would take mine out, but every once-in-a-while i have more than 1 passenger in the car....very rarely though. Im considering pulling mine out too.

30 pounds is 30 pounds...I think im gunna do it tomorrow...we'll see if I have time...
I did a little more net surfin on the subject and have found a few "covers" for a rear seat delete, but why would I want to throw more weight in after I take the seats out to reduce weight?
Ive heard putting floor mats in the wholes actually doesn't look too bad...so we'll see what I come up with in the next few days...

I contemplated doing that when I was getting my car fixed and modify my bird to a two seater, then i thought about...that's 2 chicks less that I can take with me

true...however, if you find a girl thats really worth your time, it's more personal as a 2 seater anyway...

just havin one seat for one girl makes them feel more special haha...

Bingo. I can't remember exactly what size the bolts are but it's a pretty standard size. I have seen those things that go in the empty spots where the bucket seats go, somebody on LS1tech makes custom ones as well, some with hidden doors to store things in. But i figure why take the seats out and then put in something that weighs the same amount....I usually just drive around with my back bench rest down.

yea, I agree...
I'll probably take it out when it warms up again...it was like 36 (yes above zero finally!

) the other day when I took those pics, bu now its back down in the single digits and very cold...
It's supposed to get in the 40's this week tho, and I'll probably start cleaning the inside of my car....Ill prolly pop 'em out and see what it looks like!

I think they are 13mm. The ones for the buckets may be 15...not sure. My car is 70 miles away otherwise I'd check. You can almost take these cars completely apart with 7, 10, 13, and 15mm size tools.

I took mine out when I dyed my carpet black...by the way looks ballin....and I think it is a 13mm and a 15mm....but there is also a star nut for each seat belt...If I remember correctly. Mine is a convertible so there is less open space backthere but I remember it lookin pretty slick.

Took out the bottoms today...very easy to do...less than 5 minutes...one bolt (right on the money 13mm, by the way) for each side...
I got the back taken off too (also 13mm but had to use a wrench), but couldnt find my torque/star bits in the garage to take off the seat belts...turns out they where in my dorm

so I couldnt take off the seat belts...
so the back is still in there held in by the seat belts...I took pictures of it, but Ill put them all up probably early next week after I clean up the carpet and get those seat belts removed (probably sunday)

Those things sure don't seem to weigh 30 pounds...Id like to put them on a scale...
I'd reccomend this to anyone doing cleaning.detailing for spring, it's going to be much easier to clean... plus I found 2 lost CD's and 55 cents and itll look better than ever after a good cleaning when I get it put back together(If it decide to)...

I did this on my 87 TA, but I also removed the seatbelts, then took my angle grinder and cut out all the steel attachment points. I then bought a new uncut carpet from Classic Industries for the rear, and it looked like nothing was out of place. In fact, the one time I HAD to have someone sit back there after the removal, they said it was better cause there was room to stretch out, lol.
