Okay everyone, I have a 94 Formula, and my transmission is going bad. When accelerating it almost seems as if the car is in neutral. Just high revving with now action to the wheels, occuring around/after 3000 rpm. I'm not sure exactly what model I have. It is a 94 automatic formula w/ the "perform" button. New the guy at the transmission shop told me it would cost 660 for a rebuild kit(gaskets and other small things) labor and fluid + any other "hard parts" is what he called them which I guess are major parts in the transmission.1) Am i getting ripped off already?
Also I have been reading and i'm thinking I might just want to save up get a rebuild/upgrade transmission. I have read about a TransGo ###### kit, corvette or billet servos, and stall converters. If we can find out what transmission I have, will these upgrades fit my transmission? Also what do these upgrades independently do ( what does a shift kit do/for? a servo? which one billet or vette? and recommended stall converter?) Also, if anyone knows of a good transmission shop around Clarksville, Tn/ KY border? How much am I looking at with these upgrades? I really don't plan on drag racing this car every weekend. I just want to be able to beat the brakes off of every mustang and ricer that drives by me on the street.
Also any other upgrades that would prevent this transmission from breaking down. It would be a shame for me to dump 2500 into new trans, and then it like break the driveshaft or something idk. Just random stuff that an inexperienced teenager wouldn't know about, that should be done for preventive measures.
