I replaced the two speakers (Mid back seat) after the stock ones blew out... I replaced them with a decent set of kicker speakers that didnt last very long at all... I dont want to pay for installation again so i was wondering what the size was on those speakers? Its a 99 TA, ive read a few diffrent posts here that say diffrent sizes, i think it might be 6.5? And how do you take the plastic peice off to get to them anway? Thanks...
P.S. i dont really play my music that loud at all, anyone know why the kicker set didnt last long at all? bad set? etc?

Are both Kicker speakers blown or just one? If you have the Monsoon, only bass frequencies are directed to those speakers. Are the Kicker speakers full-range or just mid-bass? Kicker is supposed to be a really good brand, should last very long time (I replaced all my speakers with Kenwoods several years ago, and I play the music loud almost every time I drive the car, and they're still working like new).

Stock speaker size is the "oversized" 6.5 speakers (better known as 6 3/4). The rear speakers are extremely easy to replace (just do it yourself, don't pay for them to be installed again). The covers just pop right out (start with one end, then work your way around ad it will come right out).

Also wanted to add...do your rear speakers distort? Distortion and clipping can greatly shorten speaker life.

Ya both of them are blown, one went and then the next one went prob a month or so after.... Its the Monsoon system too... IM pretty sure they are full-range... They worked well though for the time being.. They were the only speakers i had replaced, all the others were factory... The cd player is a nice Panasonic...

Ok, since it's a Monsoon, the stock speakers by the back seats are subwoofers. So what you would have to do is replace them with 4-ohm DVC subwoofers (if you want to use standard full-range speakers, you will need to run new wiring to get full-range sound).

Oh, and welcome to TFS. How about uploading some pics of your ride in your gallery?

ha, sounds familiar man...

I have a 95 with the 10 speaker setup. Very similar to the monsoon setup(the rear seat speakers are subs)....when I put in new speakers and listened to them carfully, I thought something was wrong...there where no voices! haha...come to find out there never was...

I put in alpine type S speakers...wish I would have done somethin else now cuz if I knew I was lookin for a sub, i woulod have done somethin a little different probably...oh well..

If money isn't a factor and you have an external amp setup...check out JL evolution ZR speakers. I remember them being 2 ohm...and I must say that JL speakers are the best investments I've ever made. Their subs are outstanding and their speakers hit every note I need. Never blown one either.

There is a sponsor on LS1tech that sells a ton of speakers for our cars, including a whole bunch of sub sailpanel speakers. The site is down right now, but i'll find it for you when it's up and working again. Mine blew, and i just bought upgraded factory replacements. The stock ones weren't built to handle the power that the Monsoon system put out, so those sail panel speakers are usually the first to go.
