Full Version: now this is just plain strange...

okay..my tranny is going out..1st, 2nd and 3rd slip OD is rough but dont slip...i was sittin at a redlight on my way home, had the heat on HEATER and blowing HIGH..all the sudden my car revs from 800 rpm to about 1500 rpm all alone then starts surging..the heat then shut off and even when i had it off i could hear what sounded like it was blowing but nothing came out the vents..then it would stop for a second..and start agin..stop and start etc.so i pulled over and had the heat off completely and could still hear what sounded like it was on then cut off again..so i popped the hood and the whole AC was frozen over super thick and the box in the pass corner of the engine bay was surging on and off..then i got back in and i started smelling what smelled like burning wires...(had smoke rolling from center of dash behind radio and from vents but couldnt ever find out what it was) so not only is the trany takin a $*** but the heat is too? anyone know what this is? im puzzeled.

I have no idea what it is. But I would start by getting under the dash to see if I could find anything that is burnt.

.and I was thinking about catching up with you next month when I go up to green cove springs. I've been interested in your Formula for a while now. Sounds as if a vacuum line has gone bad or become disconnected.....that's explain not blowing through the ventes and the irratic idle. The frozen a/c...I don't know. You'd have to have it on defrost or regular a/c setting for the compressor to run......it won't run if it's just set on the foot or panel setting for heat.

I'd still be interested in your car......I just want to inspect it to make sure it's never neen wrecked...I'd do a full out restore on it if I bought it. Also curious to know if it's a Florida only car....

well i didnt just have it on HEATER..i turn it on MAX until the temp gets up since it dont really get hot on HEATER until the engine warms up so that might be why it had frost all over...and ive checked behind the dash for burnt wires and stuff but i couldnt find nothing at all so i left it apart to see if itd smoke..then it refused to smoke so i just put it back together after a while..and now it smokes again..and for creaminchiken, my car has been hit one time by a girl on the pass door and front fender..but it was all replaced and isnt on insurace or carfax...we settled it off the books so its fine..

After reading your posts, i have come to the conclusion that your car simply has a mind of it's own.

well today i decided to see if i could find some burnt wires to seek that smoking rpoblem i have..so i took out the radio and tried to take out the AC comntrols but it only comes out like not even half way...but i was messin with the selector and it was on the off position...so when i turned the key to on, the ac came on but nothing comes out the dash vents only from the defrost vent...ive had this problem before and all it was was that the switch under the hood was shorting out so i looped it with a piece of metal and it worked fine..but now idk what it is because the old fix is still fine..and i have to barely move the selector over just a hair to the right inbetween OFF and MAX for it to turn off completely..but even when its on it shuts off and on...really strange
