Hello I was wondering if anyone has heard of the problem I'm having with my 1995 firebird formula LS-1 engine. When I start up my car the oil pressure is about 40-60lbs.. When the motor warms up to over 180 degrees my oil pressure gauge drops like a rock and then my check gauges light comes on my dash, I have plenty of oil in the car..... I took it to my local pontiac dealer and he said that my oil being pumped into the motor was at only 2-5psi (he put a gauge on it) he was surprised that my motor hasn't frozen or blown up... He then told me that it would be cheaper to buy a motor then fix the one thats in there.... I'm not that car savy and I was wondering if any one else has had this problem or heard of it before?... I did ask him about the oil pump but he shrugged it off saying that wasn't the problem.....

Maybe I'm confused but your Tech Tool Tray says you have an LT1 which is the statndard engine for your `95, but your post says it's an LS1.

How many miles are on the engine ? and what type and viscosity of oil do you use ?
Sounds like an oil pump problem but then why does it show good pressure at cold start then drop to almost nothing when warm. I've never seen that big of a difference or a reading that low for that matter.
JMO but an oil pump is obviously cheaper and easier to replace them an engine. Especially if everything else with the engine seems to be good.

Everything Craig said, also could be worn engine .bearings if miles are high/ poor maintenance, How many miles are on it,? Is it a lt1 or ls1. No factory ls1's till ""98 model year. Need more info. huh.gif

Yes its a LT1 i must of hit wrong button, it has 94,800 on it..... I haven't driven it the last 4 months and its killing me!!!! I believe it was 30 weight oil (dealer did oil changes)

I had a very similar problem, pressure was good but when warmed up at idle the pressure would drop, as soon as I hit the gas the pressure would rise back up.

Turned out to be a worn cam bearing, I put in a new camshaft and the problem was solved. Plus the car runs way better with a performance cam.
