Hi, Everyone!
Does anyone know how to fix the turn signal cancellation mechanism? Mine cancels fine for a right turn , but will not cancel a left turn. Will it involve dismantelling the Steering Wheel?
If so, does anyone have instructions for doing same?
Thanks for the help.

It sounds like your issue is a broken return spring on your turn signal switch. I've fixed that issue on a couple different vehicles, if you can find a place that sells just the spring you are lucky. The last time I had to buy a kit from Autozone just to get that return spring, it was only $10 but still for a .10 spring it was a little high.
I'm not sure on the year of your vehicle so I will just give you a brief overview of doing it on a 94. Make sure wheels are straight to ease centering of steering wheel on reassembly. Disconnect the battery as you will be removing the airbag. (follow a tech manual for exact disabling procedures of the airbag as I don't remember if there is more to it than that, usually there is a period of time to wait after disconnecting the battery as the circuit has capacitors which can hold a charge for a period of time after power is removed) But after that is done, remove the 4 screws on the back of the steering wheel which removes the airbag, disconnect the electrical connector and set aside (bag up). Then remove the steering shaft nut which holds on the steering wheel. Use a standard steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel. After that is removed you should see (going from memory here so bare with me) a yellow and white plastic ring with wires that went to your airbag. This is your airbag clockspring, do Not spin the inner ring as you can throw the rotation off which can lead to it turning too far to one side after reassembly and cause it to break. You should be able to slack it up enough to pull it over the steering shaft and allow it to hang off to the side. Next you will see the steering wheel lock plate. To remove this you will need a friend that can press it down so you can remove the round retaining clip on the shaft or you can buy a tool that screws to the steering shaft and compresses the plate for you. The tool is the better way to go, I bought mine at Napa for like $15, it's worth it. I usually use 2 small screw drivers to get under the clip and walk it up off the shaft. Then just lift the lock plate off the shaft and you should see your turn signal switch. Check to see that both return springs are in place. Odds are they are not. Inspect the area of the switch where the springs connect to it and make sure the switch itself didn't break causing the spring to fall out. If it is good just toss another spring in there, check to see if the switch needs relubricated while you have it apart. Check for normal movement of the switch after installation. If everything looks good just put it back together opposite of how it was removed. Hope this helps.

Here is an exploded view of the column, it should make understanding what I was talking about a little easier.
http://shbox.com/1/steering_column_exploded.jpgThe spring that is most likely to be the cause of this issue is on item number 12 the actual turn signal switch. I did forget to mention the return cam item 7 but it just lifts off the shaft after you remove the steering lock plate (6). Hope that helps make things easier to understand. It really isn't that complicated of a job, I think the worst part is the round retaining ring that holds the lock plate to the shaft...usually takes a couple small screw drivers and some patience to get underneath it and walk it up out of the groove.
