Hi to whoever reads this,

I purchased a 1971 Formula a few months ago It's a bit bashed and rusty . I intend bringing it up to a good standard and getting it licenced.

I think it may be an original formula 400 with a 350 engine. It has 400 badges that look original. The Pontiac paperwork doesn't tell me which engine it had

but the new retail price in 1971 was $3440:00 with options (rally wheels, tilt steering etc) $4163:83. It currently has a TH350 auto but it has previously been a

manual . The car and me live in Australia and it is hard to get parts. Hoden have made pontiacs since the 1920's( I once owned A 28 or 29 oakland "T" built by Holden)

But they did not make many ; none since the early 60's I think & none are firebirds. I was thinking of importing a late model FB for parts I was thinking of getting a 79 model,

with a 400 & a muncie , I have bad damage in the back driver 1/4 pannel . The vin is 226871l103202 The current motor is a WU 350 (1970 I think) with N0 94 heads (1971)_

The car was shipped to Hazen motor co Central av 12-28-1970. Was it a 350 or 400 manual & is my import idea silly? I expect to pay about $3000 us to freight one here.

Any help is welcome.

Regards

PS Bosch champion NGK Delcoremmy & ACdelco do not list a 1971 formula as having 350's why?

First off welcome.gif to TFS! Congrats on the new Bird. I think the ''68, "70, and ''71 Formula's are some of the best looking 1st Gens. Sounds like you may have a rare one there, most of them Iv'e seen were auto. +1 for pics! biggrin.gif
Tyler
Pontiac blocks have the engine size cast into the block if memory serves correct. Look under the car at the block right under the exhaust manifolds. if not try here...
