Hi. I need to replace the door speakers in my 94 Formula (again). Is there a preferred brand, and power rating?

I went to Best Buy and listened to some. The guy recommended Kenwood, which were on sale for $75, but I thought they sounded a little tinny. They jump up in price from there to like $150 and up for Infinity, Alpine, etc.

I know it all depends on my preference; I just want to be steered in the right direction. happy.gif
It is currently a factory head Monsoon.

Also, is this something I should be able to install at home? Red to red, black to black and so on?

thanks

Depends how much you wanna spend.... I have JL everything besides my panasonic head unit. I'll look tonight at the part number for the JL's i got in my doors. Even when its cranked all the way up you still hear crisp sharp highs and mids (well my JL came with the mid and tweeter) and its some pretty loud bass so i laugh at my friend he's got an expedition sick amount of bass but half the time you cant make out any voices lol so he enjoys riding in my car cuz u got bass and highs mids etc. Altogether i only spent like $1200 but that was for a W3 10 inch woofer in a stealth box 700 watt amp and 4 JL speakers & tweeters and a headunit which the stealth box sub and headunit was like 60% of the price. Oh and in the sound world you get what you pay for your not gonna get crisp clean sound without a bitta cash which isnt that much really ##### i got mine exactly how i want it for under 1500 though i might get a W6 and bigger amp.

Oh about installation its all about how you want it to look. typical grounds showing here n there and wires tucked into places or a custom installation where you cou;ldnt find wires if sumone paid you to find them like mine but i paid for my installation cuz it was a one time thing got it the way i wanted and now all i gotta do is replace stuff if i want to upgrade cuz wires are already ran.

Keep in mind Camaros got the 2ohm stereo system where Firebirds got a 4ohm stereo system I found places that would try to sell me a 2ohm 6 1/2. There is a guy on LS1 Tech that specializes in 4 ohm speakers. Ive personally havent had to replace mine yet, but alot of people swear by his products. I believe he has a website at Kee Audio I checked out his prices and they seemed pretty fair for the amount of base/clarity your looking for.

Also if your looking to upgrade your head unit, I found that Sonic Electronics Have some pretty nice deals. Picked up a single din 7" Flip Out DVD that plays the most file formats, with all the adaptors and GM bezel all for $280 for my 95 Silverado. Found a nice Double Din Kenwood on there for the Formula I plan to get, altho its a bit more pricer. cool.gif

I wouldn't bother ordering 2 ohm speakers. You will notice an overall output difference between the 2 ohm and the 4 ohm but you'll have a much nicer selection of speakers and I would guess you'd save enough you could change more then 1 set out. Ignore what any salesguy tells you and just listen to them with one of your own CD's. If you like them then buy them, the salesguy isn't the one who will be listening to it all the time.
