Nobody has posted a new story for awhile, so I'm gonna post one from a couple weeks ago.
Lately, I've been hanging with some local guys that drive Hondas. I typically drive my 240sx over there, but I decided to take my Trans Am for fun. As soon as I pull up, a kid with a GTP walks up to me and asks if I wanna race a Mustang. I looked at it, and immediately noticed it was the new body style v6 model. I asked if it was SC, and he said no. It had an exhaust, intake, and a tune. They claimed a 14.0 or better e.t. I agreed to race, and about an hour later we all went to the middle of nowhere.
My first run against the Mustang was bad. I wasn't calm, so I missed 3rd and hit 5th, but was far enough ahead that I just laughed and went with it. Figured he was gonna catch up soon anyway. Really, he didn't catch up for awhile. Next run, I went all out. Dropped the clutch at 3 and started the race sliding. Once I caught traction, I left him. Bad. I'd say 3 cars before slowing down at 80 due to oncoming traffic. He went back to B&O, and the GTP asked for some runs. My clutch was acting funny, but I agreed cuz I doubt that anyone would have believed me.
The GTP held his own up until about 100mph. Past that, it was horrible. Went from 1 car lead to about 8+ cars at 120. If my clutch wasn't slippin, it would've been even worse.
The funny thing about all that is, when I got back to B&O (the parking lot where we hang out) I was asked to pop my hood. The two drivers were checking my car for a purge kit. Apparently, they told everyone before I got back that there was no way I could win like that without spray. People hatin on LT1's like that. I still laugh when I meet someone new, and they already know me as "the guy that sprayed". Multiple people have gone to the drivers' work places and had lectures about how I sprayed. I think it is funny how ignorant some people can be.
Also...my mods are a k&n cone filter on the stock intake (the last owner never bothered to spend money), a full Borla exhaust, and I have the t56 Borg Warner.

Nice kills man.

I just read up on the 2010 Camaro. GM claims 304 HP for the base v-6 and I believe 426 HP for the LS3 v-8.

It said The General hopes it will be the ''ace card'' to pull GM out of it's slump if enough people buy them. Dave

Everyone that does not know about the F-body LT1 will always underestimate it. Nice kills. Get that clutch fixed and some 3.73 and look out.

I saw a modded up GTP run a 14.0 at the track friday night. Decently respectable. Not sure what was all done to it, but all those guys seem to think theyre ferrari owners when I come across them
Import/tuner guys almost always underestimate the LT1s...they think if its not an LS1 its just not fast. Totally ignorant. Ive had my hood open too for people to look around to find my blower/nitrous and they get a little upset when all they see are headers and an intake. Cant blame them though, id be upset if a stock GM engine beat my modded up import/4cyl 6cyl ive blown thousands on...funny too cuz it was GM's warm up engine before they built the LS1...they only ever built these engines for 5 years then deemed it old technology...

LOL nice kills man! Those LT1's sure can roll out, and it really doesn't take much to get a lot of power out of them, just like most of GM's modern engines. The people who don't own them or know anybody who owns them just have NO clue about how capable they are. They figure "oh, it's just a heavy old iron-block"....but I guess that's part of the fun. If everybody knew just how quick our cars were, they would never wanna race

It's nice to disappoint them when they think they've got an easy win.
But seriously...a V6 mustang wanting to race? That dude is delusional.

Well, I guess the Mustang raced a guy with an auto LT1 Camaro with some work done, and walked him. I think it's funny how people think the 6 speeds are just like the autos (no offense to anyone). Once the car is in good working condition again, I plan to race a friend with an auto LT1 that has the same mods as me. It was the 4.0 Mustang btw...not an awesome car, but definitely more power than the 3.8 motors. I agree that GTP owners think that their cars are amazing..which they aren't bad, but the common word is turd when it comes to triple digit speeds.
One last thing...I'm not going to say the clutch problem, just that I fixed it already. And I'm not getting gears til I get a 12 bolt.

haha careful there, the auto's can surprise ya. Honestly when cars have as much power as ours, the difference between the 6 speeds and auto's aren't that big. Plus, don't forget they are geared differently as well.
To give ya a comparison, my most recent race (about 2 weeks ago) was against a guy with another LS1 T/A from my school. He had the exact same mods as me, except his car had an ORY as compared to my catted y, and that he had his girlfriend in the car (so what...maybe an additional 110lbs?) I'd say those two factors just about even each other out. Anyways, out of 3 races, the first and last were dead even and the 2nd one i beat him by about half a car. Mine is an auto, his was a 6 speed

These were roll races as well.

These were from a roll too, where the 6 speeds have the better advantage.
I'm not trying to sound cocky, but all of the autos I have ridden in seem to kinda lag. My ex girlfriends camaro didn't feel nearly as strong as mine, and they have redone quite a bit on hers. I will see though. Half of it is the driver, so I'll need to bring my game.

True, the sticks definitely do feel stronger. But they also have a direct connection to the engine, where as the autos have to go through the torque converter. So the power feels less...but it's still there. But it all changes once the auto guys upgrade to a higher stall converter....then it's all over for the 6 speeds
I gotta say, I love the T-56. I wish I had one in my car. Bullet-proof transmission

the other night we raced an auto 94 TA and a 6 speed 96 Z28 7 or 8 times we lined up north of town. They both had very comperable mods just bolt ons and exhaust...
The TA launched much better almost every time, and the 6 speed only really beat it hands down 1 time...
When weighing pros and cons, theyre about the same.
The 6 speeds are geared better, but they are not always faster. More fun, heck yes, faster, depends...sometiems
Ive never missed 3rd with my auto

Haha hey now! In my defense...I'm used to having a little bit of light from my cd player for visual recognition of the gears. I had put in my new dvd player, but had the screen hidden on the first race, so I had zero lighting. Once I brought that out, I didn't miss a thing

. And that was the first time in about 10 races that I've missed a gear.
I haven't ran against an auto F body yet, so I have no personal experience to run on.

Hahaha same here man, same here.
I would honestly take a 6 speed over an auto any day because they most definitely are more fun to drive. But when it comes to drag racing...auto's is where it's at. Not as satisfying when the car shifts for you, but they are much more consistent and launch like no other. I really wanna stall my auto, but I just haven't been putting as much money into my car as i used to...i gotta save for more important things. But I've ridden in my friends stalled / cammed CETA and that thing scared the crap outta me. That's what i want for my car
Shoot after reading this thread I wanna go out and race

One of my friends from work likes this guy who's got some old beat-up Integra with a fartcan...he wants to race me. He already admitted he knew he would get crushed, maybe once all the rain stops i'll take out my urge on that poor guy hahahahhaa!

Never ridden in a stalled auto before. Hopefully that'll change soon. I really need to start droppin big bucks on Stella and do some suspension work. Start launchin like a boss haha.

Man ive come across a couple things lately of people running low 12's in there full bolt on/suspension/rear end/stalled autos with an internally stock engine....
man...THAT would be awesome....I've got some work to do!
After these tires get put on (finally got them, should be here tomorrow, and then just gotta take them to work and mount them up

) Im gettin my car tuned and SFC's and Im hopin for low 13's.
High 12's would be awesome, but Im not gunna get my hopes up. It ran 13.6 with bald tires last year untuned so i've got my fingers crossed...
