Alright guys I keep hearin rumors and what not so I wanna ask everyone here. Does the WS6 really put out 340 to the crank? And if it does, why didn't they make all firebirds/trans ams into WS6's or Firehawks???

If your refering to an LS1 (98-02) powered Car then your partially correct
All LS1 cars regardless of model are 345-350 HP cars at the Flywheel.
This is why they usually put down approx 290-310 to the wheels on average.
The Ram Air Cars (WS6 SS Firehawk) make virtually no additional power over the base cars.

ut I thought that the LS was only rated at like 320-325hp?

Those are the Official GM ratings and they are Bogus.
All LS1's made approx 345-350 HP regardless of what vehicle they were installed in.

Dang it. I want an LS.

Remember,WS6 is more than the ram air. It is also bigger wheels/tires and better handling suspension. They did not make all of them that way cause some people dont want to pay the extra $3500 for that option. It's worth it though.

The WS6 suspension is only slightly better then the standard setup. Even so it's hard to justify the extra $3,150.00 considering most of the parts on a WS6 will likely be changed in the pursuit of more power and better handling anyway.
If I count my Suspension mods along with my 18" wheels I'm still $500+ under the cost of the WS6 oprion and well beyond it as far as performance. Add the cost of my intake and exhaust mods and I'm just above the PKg price by $100. BTW I'm not counting my WS6 hood in this because it's for asthetics only and it only cost me $500 with paint.

^ what he said. when the fbodys were in show rooms and you saw a ws6 over a base t/a you immediatly would laser in on the ws6 forgeting the fact that you were gonna pay over 3k for options that would later end up geting replaced. those ws6 sure did look pretty though over the base t/a
95bossf
dont forget the ws6 formula. mine is not, to bad they stop makeing formys with ws6 option past 2000. if any one runs into one of those snatch it up as they are somewhat rare.

Hey Craig: I'm happy to read that my LS1 puts down 350 net stock, but I didn't think it was that high. Not wanting to be a doubter or anything, just wondering where you got your info. Also I would imagine my A4 slushbox would be about 290 at the rear wheels, where am M6 would be closer to 310. Thanks, Dave.

yep, your dyno numbers are right on the money!

GM wanted to make the vette's look better buy understating the f-body's power.

So, are you guys taking the dyno #'s from the rear wheels and using a formula to calculate the flywheel HP factoring in the loss from the drivetrain to get the number ? Has anyone actually run the motor on an engine stand to back this up ? I know that the General underated the Bird's for the sake of the "Vette, but I'm just looking for some documented proof. Dave

Component wise the `98-`00 Corvette and F-body LS1's differ slightly but even so these differences account for zero power loss. Cams are the main differences but these are mainly due to the F-body using an EGR system which the Corvette doesn't have. if both engines were dynoed side by side they would be within 5 HP of each other.

`98-`00 F-body Cam
198/209 .500/.500 119.5 LSA

`97-99 Corvette
199/207 .472/.479 117 LSA

`00 Corvette
198/209 .500/.500 115.5 LSA (Used to retain the 345HP rating after the addition of 2 small pup convertors)

The `01-04 LS1's are all identical no matter which car they were installed in (F-body Vette GTO).

`01-04 LS1 Cam
196/207 .467/.479 116 LSA

If you want a chassis dyno numbers comparison I have that aswell.

6spd Trans Am vs 6spd Corvette dynoed on the same day by Hot Rod Magazine 1998

These cars dyno all over the board so It hard to know what is legit and was isn't. Add to that the fact that not all cars or dyno's for that matter are created equal. Some Tuners or Shops may manipulate numbers to get more business.
All these are the reasons I do not buy into Dyno numbers as bragging rights, Dynos are tools for tuning nothing more.

With that said heres my Dyno Graph from a Dynapack Chassis Dyno (bolts to the Hub)
Done in `06 car had 109K miles With a Lid a restrictive Flowmaster Catback and on the original clutch.
300 RWHP 322 RWTQ.

Oh yeah and Auto equipped LS1 cars are usually within 10-15 HP of M6 cars as far as Dyno numbers are concerned,

Thank's Craig, that's all I needed to see and hear! biggrin.gif Dave
