Full Version: Clutch Pedal?

So for the longest time I couldnt figure out why my cruise control wasnt working. The relay and the fuses were changed and i checked the wire harness under the car and everything was normal. So yesterday Im driving and and I give it a shot to see if it works, doesnt; however, i lifted the clutch pedal with my left foot and then tried it and it worked perfectly!

For the longest time i wondered why my clutch pedal could move so much. Before there is any resistence, i can pull the pedal and let it go like a swing. Ive looked under there and i cant see if there is something missing or not because ever stick shift ive driven, there was never that much movement with the pedal. And now i know that it is not suppose to rest there because the car thinks the clutch is depressed.

So my question: Is there a spring or bushing or somthing that it suppose to be holding the clutch pedal up?

Have you checked the fluid level in your clutch assist? I think that is what holds it in place. I will have to look at mine first chance I get.

So... Did you ever find out what the problem was with the clutch ?

Unfortunately, no i didnt. I looked underneath there and I feel something is missing, like a bushing.....the clutch fluid is more the grabbing point, the clutch pedal is not resting in the correct spot, meaning it moves back and forth like a swing

Blu2000, do you have any ideas? I havent pursued much more thought into it.

Thanks
Tyler
You can push the clutch in while the cruise is set and it will just rev up. At least my 97 will. If it moves side to side a lot I bet something is loose.

I would get under the dash with a lead light and move the pedal around while watching the pivot points. I agree with Tyler. I bet a bushing or something is loose or missing. Also,do you have a buddy with another Bird to compare it with? Dave
