Hey All, Need Some Help !
97 Formula - All Stock
Battery has been going dead overnight ocacasionally (looses @ .01 volt every 10 min)
replaced batery (hoped for a bad one !) no luck
did a drain test by hooking up my trusty meter in line and reading amp draw
started at .83A way high from what I've been told (shouldn't be above .50A)
started pulling fuses and whoa !!!!!!
the pcm fuse showed a drop of .55A when pulled (key is off)
the darn pcm fuses acually sparks when I put in in or take it out !!!
Is this possibly my problem ? has anybody experienced such a thing ????
Thanks
Rick

Adm can you fix the title ??

I believe the PCM is the only thing that should draw any amps with the key off. is there an aftermarket stereo in the car? Amp?

From what you're describing, it sounds like there is a dead short in that fuses wiring circuit. Buy or rent a short tester which can locate a shorted wire within 6 inches of it right through the wiring harness. Cut open the harness, repair the short ed /grounded wire , you're done.

Hi, sorry to say, but I have more questions than answers for you. Do you mean .83A or .083A (which is 83mA)? For most vehicles anything equal to or below .040A (40mA) when everything in the car is off is a normal draw. A '97 Formy falls in this category. Based on what you typed you have a draw of 830mA. This then dropped to 280mA when you pulled the PCM fuse. 280mA is still way high. You may want to retest your draw after waiting a few minutes to give the vehicles computers time to go to "sleep". Also make sure that if you have a hood switch that it is pressed in and any hood lamp is off (disconnected). Then it's back to pulling fuses one at a time and redoing you draw tests I'm afraid.
