Full Version: 96 formula wont start after storage

I had to store my 96 formula WS6 for 2 years. Before storage it ran perfectly, and I took very good care of it, it was in near perfect condition.
I drained the gas tank, and put it on blocks. Now I want to drive it again and it will not start.

I hear the fuel pumps working, I have spark, when I spray starting fluid into the intake it starts immediately and then dies after about 10 seconds.
It seems as if it is not getting fuel but the pumps seem to work.

Anyone have any ideas what may be wrong?

thanks in advance!

Are you getting fresh fuel to the schrader valve on the fuel rail? When you put it into storage did you drain the fuel lines? Definently change the fuel filter. Two years is quite a while to set idle ecspecially if the car wasn't prepped right for storaage. If you're absolutely certain you're getting spark, then I would suspect the fuel system. It could be gummed up anywhere from the tank to the injectors. Probably would have been better to have stored it full of fuel with a megadose of Stable in the tank. Dave

Thanks for responding Dave.

I am sure it is not getting fuel. How do I check to see if it is getting the the schrader valve? Do I just open the valve while cranking the engine?

If it is not getting there what can I do to clear the lines?

I am going to get a new filter tomorrow, thanks for the advice.

i would bet its the fuel filter... Replace that and run some fuel treatment through the car.

As far as checking the fuel, just take the cap off the end of the fuel rail and depress the schrader valve while turning the key.

the proper way to store a car is with a full tank of gas and with stabilizer in the gas.

Replace the fuel filter. That is where the blockage is most likely to be. Then with fresh fuel in the gas tank, turn the key to run for 5 seconds then back off for 5 seconds. Do this three times, that will prime the fuel pump and lines. You should hear the pump cycle on and off as you do this. Then, with a rag to catch the fuel with the key on(system should be pressurized) depress the schrader valve on the fuel rail to purge any old gas from the line. This should only take a few seconds. Use caution, wear safety glasses ,etc. After this engine should fire up. Then I would run a whole can of Seafoam through the tank of gas, then run a second can through the next tank, back to back.
