I have a friend who has a trans am rear end with disc brakes he does not know the gear ratio or if its posi track or not and i am not sure b/c the formula i have is limited slip (which sucks lol) and i am wanting a posi track!! Anyway he is taking out the motor and trans but it has the Trans Am hood which i want, i know for a formula, and some interior parts is it worth 350 for the whole car or would it be worth it to buy that rear axel for 200?

I believe Posi Traction and Limited Slip are just different names for the same rear axel. They refer to a differential with clutches that apply and release upon certain conditions such as when one tire loses traction, the other tire will dig in to push the car. I thihk what you are refering to ia a locking rear end like a Detroit Locker that actually locks the two axels together when needed. I would throw in the extrs $150 and get the parts car.

Is there a locker i could put into my rear axel to make it posi trac? Is it worth the 200 for the disc brakes?

Locking differentals are really high$$$ items that take a lot of fabrication to install them. You would be better off replacing the junk 10 bolt rear end found in our cars with a 12 bolt unit. That would be plenty strong enough for your car unless you plan on doing 3500 rpm launches on dry pavement all day long.

As for the disk brakes, you need to make sure the rear axel assy. matches up with your car, (around the same year, abs equipped, traction control, if your car has it etc...

True posi is not very safe on a daily driver either. Since there is no "slip" one tire will scoot thru a turn. This can be a disaster on wet roads. What year cars are we talking about here anyway? If it's a 4th gen car and his was an automatic it likely has a 3.23 ratio. Manuals got a 3.42.

In the 88 not in my 2000 Trans Am!! I am just shooting around ideas to see what i wanna do!! I want a 350 tpi but one of my friends thinks i am stupid for trying to find one but thats just what i want even though i think i could turn my tbi into a tpi with computer and some pieces on the motor!! Trying to see if it is worth it!!

Ummm... I thought we were talking about differentials here, not motors?

we are i just threw that in there with the ideas i am wanting to do but you never know!! its going to be a long drawn out process having 2 to work on!! But i do need a rear end in my 2000 since gm thought it would be funny as ##### to put a real weak one in these cars!!

As mentoined above, a 12 bolt would be a good, affordable choice. If you wanted something beefier yet, you could go with a Ford 9 in. rear end.
