dont know if any body remembers, my 01 formula had gone kaputs. had that loud tapping coming out of the engine did not go away. well i said to ##### with it and gona order a crate ls6 and drop it in. figure the time and money im gonna spend fixing the ls1. i can do most of the work my self until it comes down to the block, i dont have the tools to put the bottom end togther and most likely its gona need machining one way or the other. what every the problem is on the bottom end your gona have to replace it by 8. and being the gear head i am once its opened up my part of the brain that controls logic is gonna go out the window and im gonna want to modify something because i dont see the logic in open in up the motor to fix it and leave the same and little by little the cost is gonna start to stack up. at the end of the day prob end up spending 4-5 grand on machine work and new parts when for a extra grand more i can get a ls6 crate thats never been open up, since the wife drive the car as a daily driver sometimes.
so thats the verdict a crate ls6
was gona order just the short block but gonna get the one with everything.
the only thing i will need is to tune the computer and ls6 maf
iv thought it through as to what i will need. has anyone done this swap or have any info i might be forgeting ?

This one is an LS6 long block from a CTSV all you need to do is swap your LS1 F-body oilpan waterpump, balancer, Intake, and accessories and it's a drop in, Althogh I've heard there is a slight difference in the knock sensor connectors but nothing that would cause a huge issue.

the one im getting is the complete engine with intake injectors balancer headers etc... minus maf. althrough the accesseory drive is that of a corvette, so i might need to swap the vetts acc drive with my current one. and comes with the batwing oil pan but they also throw in a fbody oil or at least that waht summit says.
or would you suggest the base ls6 long block and swap all the stuff over to the new one. still need ls6 injectors
im thinking the complete engine only cause its 1000 more that the base long block.
im getttig all specs and part # from gmpp catalog and cross refrenceing with summint for priceing.

Being that your car is an `01 it already has the same intake and injectors as the LS6. And IMO why buy parts like intake, oilpan and accessories that you already have.
Just swap the parts off your LS1 and save the extra $1K for some headers or a proper tune for the LS6.

always the voice of reason when a gearhead aint firing in all cylinders. that was my original plan just get the base longblock.
but then i thought ok what bout all the odds and ends, got the intake. but what about the tb, knlock sensors and any other sensor or part that is ls6 specific that if i use the ls1 stuff its gonna impact the general base performance of the engine. and if i buy the needed stuff at the end of the day it would total the extra grand. thought just want to drop it and go.
but now im thinking of getting the base long block like you said.
basically im at a gear head cross road here i want everthing in the catalog but need to make the dollar strech. if it was just a track or sat night trasher then no problem just get it running, but its gonna be a daily driver.

so my question now is besides the tb and knock sensors is there any other ls6 specific item that wont transfer from a 01 ls1 to the ls6 long block

There really isn't any substantial differences between the 2 engines other then the 243 heads with the lightweight valves and the camshaft. All the other parts are chassis specific. The TB are identical except ones Cable and ones ETC, even the base LS1 tune on your ECM will run the engine just fine bt a performance tune would wake it up quite a bit.
It's my understanding that the knock sensors from the LS6 are better but they require a different connector. But I also heard there was a piggyback connector available to plug them into an LS1 specific harness.
There is always nickel and dime stuff that can make these swaps kind of a hassle. But in the end when you turn that key and it fires right up for the first time it makes it all worth while.

Best advice I can give you is when the LS1 is pulled place the LS6 next to it and swap all the essential parts ground straps and sensors to the same location as the original engine to ease the swap.
