Full Version: What is considered good fuel pressure?

I've just hooked up a fuel pressure gauge and right now while its idling, it shows 30 psi. From what I've read on the forums, that's a little low but I'm not quite sure. I have a 94 Formula and my question is what the proper psi should be at?
Tyler
It should be 42-44 with the key on/motor off. It should only drop a tiny bit while running. I did not think they would run that low. You might want to look at this link also...

The injectors are rated at 43.5 psi. The fuel pressure, with the engine running should be somewhat lower, but not that much. Engine not running, key on with engine cranking, the pressure should be 43.5 psi, engine not running, key turned off, the pressure should drop to around 37 psi pretty quickly and hold for some time before gradually falling off. However, the fuel pressure should not drop much below 12psi over night. The most accurate check is with the coil disconnected, engine cranking...within a few cranks, pressure should be exactly 43.5 psi.

Either the fuel pressure gauge is inaccurate or the fuel pressure relief valve has gone south with the ducks. This is a normal failure and the valve should be replaced. I always recommend that the replacement should be the stock valve. It is preset from the factory and very accurate. If you buy the adjustable type then you have to depend upon just how accurate is your gauge, and the engines are very sensitive to even the smallest change in fuel pressure.

Hope this helps.

replace the fuel filter as well while your at it
Dylan
Replaced the fuel filter and it didn't really change anything pressure wise, so I ordered in a fuel pump to see if that will help things

New Racetronix fuel pump is in, fuel pressure is looking to be about 42 psi. Feels like I've got my power back, which is good. Thanks for the help everyone.
