ok heres the issue... on monday, my car was running fine, on tuesday, i didnt drive....wednesday we had the hurricane sideswipe up and we got lots of rain. i had to drive home from work eventulaly thru the water and whatnot.

now i have a strange problem with my car. i accellerate and the rpms go up, but then they come back down and then the engine catches up with the rpms.

i push the gas pedal, the rpms go up, but then they come back down and then engine catches up with the reving and i have a great loss of power. it happens in all 6 gears.

did something maybe get wet that shouldnt have? what causes this disparity between rpms and engine reving?

Wet clutch? However, that should go away as the clutch dries and water leaks from the inspection plate. How about water in the Optispark (it shouldn't run at all if that was the case), or a wet ignition module/coil connections?

That has to be the clutch.

Yup...I think it has to be the clutch, too. Was just thinking...was the water muddy? If it was, it might take some time to burn off any contaminates that got onto the driven disc and cluth plate. Something like mud could cause it to slip for some time. Don't try to burn it off or anything like that, just try to drive it easy for awhile.

what sucks is that i just had the clutch completely replaced a year ago, am i gonna have to have the clutch replaced again?

It's really iffy right now and I'm betting on it wearing off. Try to drive the car easy--don't let the clutch slip. If the clutch starts to slip--heat will build up and there might be a possibility of the contaminent glazing on the driven disc. Have seen clutches wet before and they always dried off after a bit and worked just fine, so this is a new one on me. I think the first clue you will have that the driven disc is bad will be when it starts to chatter. If this happens, don't think there is anyway that it will clean itself off. Funny thing is that sanding the disc would solve the problem, but pulling that heavy trans is so much work, better to install a new disc. The pressure plate is probably OK.

i went ahead and did the fourth gear take off clutch slip test, and the car slowly took off.....

and then just for S&G i came to a complete stop and put the car in 1st gear and just let off the clutch all together and teh car didnt stall out, it slowly started to creep foward, no gas pedal applied!!!

Yeah...the LT1 engines have an enormous amt of torque and can do that. A ricer, on the other hand, would probably blow the bottom end, and the clutch would wind up in China. laugh.gif
