Hello all,
I recently struck a deal and purchased used carpet and front and rear seat belts from a guy for my newly purchased 91 formula. When it arrived I found that I was missing the front two belts, so I email him to let him know they were missing. He replies with, "Oh, I meant to email you, but when I got to the post office I found out it would cost $8 more to ship than I thought, so I removed the front belts so it would be less, if you want to send me $22 more then I will ship them to you"
So, I'm like, WTF. We had a deal that I would send him $XXX for all the belts and carpet that specifically included shipping (and believe me, it wasn't that good a deal). So basically, he is holding my seat belts for ransom, or is it extorsion (sp). This does not seem right to me, in fact it seems dead wrong. I emailed him to let him know that this is not a good business practice and that he should have emailed or called (I included my home phone # with my payment) to let me know the situation. Now I am waiting for a response.
What do you all think, am I blowing this out of proportion, or is a deal a deal.
I have always been a man of my word and this is really disappointing to me.

man thats raw... if he gave you "x" amount for a price that included shipping, then its on him if he screwed up, and he should take the $8 loss, that's rediculous...

Thanks for the replies. I thought it was pretty bad, glad you guys agree! I tell you, I have dealt with a lot of different people over the net making deals on various parts and even cars but this guy takes the cake, never have I seen someone with such utter disregard for integrity. I mean when you make a deal you make a deal. I have even made a few bad deals where I got screwed by doing the right thing, but I always did the right thing (and this was a measley 8 bucks we're talking about).
Now, what should I do about this guy? I'm pretty sure I don't have a chance of getting my parts without sending him more money. But there is no way I will reinforce this behavior by giving in to his demands. I don't think I should send the parts back to him as I would probably never get my money back. Should I post his name on a few message boards as a "do not do business with this shady guy" message, threaten him with this first, or is there something else I can do? I have his name, email, and address.
Thanks,
-Chris

Chris where did you find him? On eBay, private ad, where? If it was eBay do a negative feedback on him and then report him to the people who run eBay. If it was a private ad, keep the stuff he sent you then tell him you are going to take him to small claims court if he don't send you the seat belts, since you already bought and paid for them. Don't know if will help, but it couldn't hurt to try that.

Sue,
Unfortunately I did not buy the parts from ebay. It was a private ad on thirdgen.org. Anyone know what I can do over there? This guy should probably not be on the loose, who knows what he could have done to me.

Chris go to the classifieds section on thirdgen.org. There is a good/bad feedback section that you can reply in. Also here is the addy for the webmaster/adminstrator of thirdgen.org. It is webmaster@thirdgen.org You might want to let him know also what is going on. Just be sure to include everything that happened when you write him.
Hope this helps

if its gonna cost $8 more to ship the front belts then why did he say send him $22? where does the other 14 bucks come in? I got one raw deal on the net and i wont buy over it anymore, even ebay. I found what I thought was a good, running 455, that was supposedly pulled from the car 3 days before I talked to him. when i picked it up and got it home, tore it apart for a rebuild, found a mouse nest in the intake, cylinder walls were all rusted and the crank was scratched. it must have sat outside with no carb for atleast a year.

I wouldn't let a bad experiance ruin future opprotunities.I have bought & sold around 125 items off of ebay with no problems. As a matter of fact, the only time I ever had anything go wrong was when I bought my CAI from MTI (I think thats it). I used my credit card on-line to pay for it and their web-site was not secure enough. Some looser got my card # and went to town with it.A book store in California called me and wanted to verify a shipping address to Singapore. What the ####?As soon as we hung up my card company called me about someone using my # to charge a $1.It was at a hobby shop somewhere and they said that thats one way they know something is wrong(when a $1 is charged).I called the place and they didn't even speak english.I got out of paying for the stuff that was not mine
thank goodness. I only use a debit card now.And I use much care when doing it to.

Nope not working for them, just know a few people running on that board. lol

That and I hate to see people get screwed over when they buy something, it makes it harder for all of us in the long run. Plus it makes my angry when people do that, so if I can help get a person like that off a board the better it is.

Hello all,
Thanks for the continued concern. My situation has not changed though. He refuses to reply to my emails despite repeated attempts to contact him on my part. So, my seat belts are still being held hostage by this punk.

You should post this guys e-mail address on the board and we'll all e-mail this guy what we think of him. I know how it feels to get screwed. I posted a message in the Open Discussion section a month back about how LS1 Motorsports would not return my money after I returned they're merchandise in perfect condition, and I STILL have not received my refund yet and that was 2 months ago.

Well, what I do when someone does something like that to me, and all I have is their email address is search for 'gay porn' or something like that and sign their email address up for as much free smut as you can

if we could somehow lure him to this board... then I can use some ole IP tools I have and traceroute him. Get his ISP... then we would have his ISP and Full Name... state... hmm.. maybe goto thirdgen.org and look in his profile and see his location.. if you want to bad enough.. information can be had....
if you want to.. we can bulk email him if you post his email addy here.. I will allow that..

You know you are screwed when he stops responding to emails. Id ask the 3rdgen admin for his IP, im sure they have it if they are using any type of quality forum software. Id definetly post his email address up here.
Edited for very foul language.DO NOT post those things here please.

I'm confused... did u give him a credit card #? Or did u send cash? If u sent cash, why did u pay in full before the items shipped? If u used a credit card (hopefully) you can simply dispute the charge citing that there are missing items from your order.

Remind me never to have any of you get PO'd and leave an address hanging around. Lynch mob describes this forum. This is really super how everyone sticks together and helps one another out. We did use the pr??k word in here and I don't think we were talking about fingers. Just an OBTN.
Did anyone find that rope yet!
