There is more than one way to enjoy these cars, personally I just simply enjoy driving the car on a daily basis. Driving is the key word here, not just getting back and forth to work. 95% of the time I baby my car around, but the rest of the time, I like to experience things that make this car a performance machine. I did a topic similar to this before, but it got gone ohmy.gif ! I'm just looking to see what other people do when just "driving" around town. For instance, just Saturday I was riding down the road minding my own business when this V6 mustang comes flying up behind me and rides my butt for a couple of miles. I tried to mildly accelerate and create some space, but he seemed determined to stayed glued to my bumper. I didn't want to go too fast down this heavily patrolled road, so I just put up with him until we got to a traffic light. I don't know if the guy thought he wanted to race me or not, but I put all those thoughts out of his head at this light. He pulled up close when we stopped like he had been the entire road. I started power braking while the light was red. After a few seconds of this, I couldn't see him for all the smoke. Then as the light turned green, I slightly lifted off the brakes but not enough to allow free movement. It was just enough to let the car start creeping forward while maintaining the burnout all the way across the intersection. He followed me even after that, but not too close anymore wink.gif . That was fun!!!

So, give me the down low people! What kind of things do you guys do(legal or not) in the name of enjoying your 'bird's performance out on the street other than just racing?

LOL ..Good post Jon.

I really wish I had a good 1 like that. It seems that when I drive the car, not very many people want to mess with it. Something like a nuclear deterent thing. Anyone who has a fast car or knows anything about cars like these know they are land missles. Usually if some kid in a "Daddy bought me this Mustang as a grad present" car pulls up besides me, they might try, but usually not. They like to bet on a surething as they'll have a few buddies with them and can't take the chance of getting totally embarassed. I think the alloy rims, pearl paint and exhuast tone scare them off. I just leave the light normally,( well I ride the clutch a bit so they get a pretty good blast of the growl it gives off), and low and behold at the next light, there is no way they want any part of it.

Now after going through that, you'll have to understand, I bought this car as a summer toy for my girlfriend. She seems to have lots of people that want to go against her. Our kids have big mouths and they can't wait to tell me what happened when Mom drives. She loves the car and gets a kick out of some of the things that happen out on the road.

A guy and his girlfriend / wife pull up beside her. The guy is looking over at her in the bird and the next thing there is an argument going on and some dirty looks from the girl. ( Never happens to me? I don't know why?? sad.gif ...)

People pull up besides her on the road while she cruising along and ask her," Does it go?" She'll just usually answer " Ya, not too badly". Next thing you know, the guy besides her is trying to hop his car to see if she'll hit it. Alot of times there's a car in front of her. She just looks at the guy , holds out her hand palm up, and points to the car in front of her and tells him," C'mon, are you kidding me?"

She has all sorts of luck. You wouldn't believe some of the people that want to mess around. She's has people in mini-vans try to take her off of lights, Kids in Neon's, VW Rabbits, the list is amazing!! She doesn't go looking for it. It just seems that most are willing to try and impress their friends that they might have a chance beat a car like that due to the fact that a woman is driving it. I almost feel discriminated against because of it. Usually if the car is something that may have a little to it, she'll take off from the light normally, (she's trying to get better at launching) shift at her normal points like she's not trying, and when she gets besides them and they're engines are winding up, looks over , smiles, and puts her foot in it . After that, it's pretty much game over. They'll pull up beside her at the next light ,or when she slows down, look over, smile and nod approvingly, or just pull off to avoid the embarassment.

One night some kids in a Neon were trying to get her to go. She just let them speed away. A little further up the road, someone in a new Celica did it and she totally sucked the decals and headlights off it. The oldest couldn't understand why she wouldn't "Do" the neon, but wax the Celica? She calmly told him that the Neon would be a waste of gas and rubber, where as the Celica was worth it due to the fact the guy thought it was fast and they do have a bit of jam. (What a good girl) cool.gif

Needless to say, I wish I had something to personally offer, but I can't. Don't ask me why? Her on the other hand gets lots!! As long as my kids are terrible at keeping their mouths shut, I always have some great stories.

I guess that's one of the crosses we have to bear when we own these great cars. It's like the benchmark that everyone measures their cars against? I'm not complaining. They're having a good time, makes them happy, and these are some of the things that they'll remember for the rest of their lives. I can't imagine what my 8 yr. old daughter says when other parents ask her about Mommies car? I know it puts a smile on my face. biggrin.gif

There are other stories like the killing of the Stealth and others. There's a few others that I proably don't know about. For the most part we drive the car normally. We don't need to smoke the tires at every light. The car looks as fast sitting in the parking lot as it does just hauling home the groceries. Heck, I have a hard time in getting the keys from her to take it if I want and I'm the 1 who owns it! Even I have a hard time deceiding if I want to take my bike or the bird? I keep trying. "Can I take the.." " NO!" Ya..that's what I thought."

Well I've got a plan... wink.gif . I have a second bike and I plan to teach her how to ride it. I'll tell her on the nice days when I feel like I want to take the car that she should practice on the bike. wink.gif

That may backfire though. I might come home and find she's been riding my new one!! ohmy.gif Oh well, that might be the chance I'm going to have to take to drive the car myself before winter comes again...lol laugh.gif

Your gunna have to hide the keys biggrin.gif

Here's something fun to do. If you go thru a drive thru and your spouse gets one of those whipped ice creams, pull out and wait for them to reach up and take a lick. Right when they do,goose the throttle and watch the fun. I laughed so hard I cried once doing that to my wife. Now I just throw it at her.
SassySue09
Tyler that wasn't nice. FUNNY but not nice. LOL laugh.gif I'll have to remember that one though. tongue.gif
Blackbird Jon
So the wife has all the fun in your 'bird huh? Maybe you should offer to chauffer her around, then you could drive it some and hopefully some of her attracting of the "spunky" types will happen while you are behind the wheel. You are right about not having to prove our cars and also about how they look fast just sitting still. However, you have to lay on the go pedal for it to feel fast, and I love to feel just that! I got a good feel for how much fun these cars are just yesterday. On the way home from work I pull up to a stop light right beside a 98+ Camaro SS. It had been raining earlier in the day, so the streets were still damp. I gave him a thumbs up about his car, and he rolled down his window and if mine was stock. I said it was, so then he asked if I wanted to run 'em. I said it was useless on the wet road, but I'd let him hear it when I pulled away. He said "you gonna kick it," and I answered HELL YEAH! Light went green, I rolled to about 5 or 10 in the middle of the intersection and then buried the throttle. You know the back end was all over the place, but I just kept my foot in it for a couple of seconds. I let off and looked up into the rear view just in time to see him slinging it sideways through the middle of the intersection just behind and to the right of me. He stayed in it a little longer so he passed me. We are beside each other at the next light both smiling from ear-to-ear, but that is all there was to it. Gave each other a wave and went our own ways. It wasn't a race or even a burnout, but it was plenty enough to get to enjoy all that TORQUE without attracting too much unwanted attention from the po-po!
Nanook
LOL.. Ya I did the ice cream trick as well. The only problem was I couldn't stop there. I had the kids in the back of my 78 Camaro Type LT. Since my girlfriend and I are fairly tall. the seats are usually fairly far back. I waited till both of the kids were about to take a lick....The I hit the brakes!!! THAT was funny!!!

Well maybe not the smartest, but funny. There was a little crying, cost me 2 new soft ice cream cones and I'm the 1 who had to clean the back of the seats. But was it worth it??
Hell Ya!!! laugh.gif

I use my bird as a daily driver and love to race from 0 to the speed limit. I rarely go over the speed limit when racing. The funny thing is that I can never find anyone to race unless my wife is in the car. Its like they know she doesn't like to drive fast and I won't be able to run with her in the car. The other day I had to drive all over and didn't see one person who wanted to run, but as soon as my wife got into the car there were three mustangs in ten minutes that wanted to run! mad.gif I had to look like an idiot and act like I didn't notice them. I could have easily taken them mad.gif This also happens with ricers as well. Sometimes I just can't help myself and well... How many other people have this problem?
Blackbird Jon
It happens to me something like that wayyyy too often. My gf doesn't like for me to run it too hard when she is in the car either. However, her being in the car doesn't seem to attract as much attention from other "extreme streeters" as does a nearly empty tank or otherwise just not the right time and place. For instance, I had a 'stang just jump all over the go pedal from beside me one day when all I was trying to do was make it to the Shell station on the last bit of fumes I had. Also, there is no use for that Civic(or whatever it may be) to rev it up at me when there is a cop on the other side of the intersection or in the rain. Let it be a nice sunny day and NOTHING!! Not a ricer in site dry.gif
SassySue09
BBJ when those ricers rev at you with a cop across the intersection give them a little rev back. Don't do it very hard or loud, just enough to make them think you want to race. When the light changes they'll take off and guess who'll be following them with the lights flashing. Now that is fun. laugh.gif
Shaun Barcelow
Bobf, I go through the same thing with my wife. I'm usually driving the Grand Am when this happens. (My son has not ridden in the Bird yet. I don't want drool on the seats!) Anyway, she has a '99 Grand Am GT and it goes pretty well. Sometimes I'll tell her before the light changes, "this guy wants to race. I'm gonna have to. We can't let him think he's faster." She doesn't buy it but it usually keeps me out of trouble. She just rolls her eyes. (I'm used to that...)
rbuchman
I drive mine around looking for ricers to embarrass, only thing is all it takes is a quick tap of the throttle and they know they are out classed by a factor of three (1.8 *3 = 5.7) so they shrug it off and try to act like they still have a fast car. I am still waiting for one to actually step up and take the whooping. Probably a good thing, the MAN just gave me another two point yesterday for running an orange light.
Blackbird Jon
I showed off just plain sitting still last night and even that was fun! As I was sitting at a light, a newer 'stang(fake hood scoop and all) was on an adjacent road and the driver(young male18 - 22) kept staring at my car like he wished he was in it. Then he decided to let me hear it and revved it up at me a little. I let him hear mine too, but it wasn't just the motor. I did the longest power brake(about 10 seconds) I've done yet just sitting there in front of this guy. The smoke was thick and white, covering the entire back end of my car since no wind was blowing it away. I thought that might encourage the 'stang to fall in behind me and test his luck, but it didn't happen. Just as well, I stopped at the car wash instead and washed the 'bird. Another Mustang pulled in the bay beside me, but I decided not to push my luck too much and left him alone. There will be other days, and I'll keep my Firebird friends informed... cool.gif wink.gif

biggrin.gif ...LOL Jon....I think since you started this thread, you've become a WILD MAN.... biggrin.gif

Blackbird Jon
Nah, it just gives me a chance to talk about the little things I do on a regular basis. I just am living a dream getting to drive this car, so I make the most of it! I try to do something "fun" in my car everyday, and I think most everyone who is into these cars as much as I am do the same. I know my buddies around here do. As far as being a wild man, trust me, I'm a lot calmer now than ten years ago when I first got my license. Good thing I didn't have the 'bird then... ph34r.gif

Just a comment on Sassy Sue's idea with the cops. Back in '78 my dad and his buddy bought firebirds. My dad the Formula, and his friend the 455 Trans Am. (now you know why I have a formula. smile.gif ).

Anyway, my dad was in his buddies trans am one night when a beat up '60s mustang, rusted, loaping cam, no paint, and a bumper sticker than said, "I eat Trans Ams" pulled up next to him. It was obvious that by '78 a stock trans am was no match for a 60's modified stang...so the guy reved the engine and looked at my dad and his friend. My dad's friend lowered his window and laughed. So the guy reved louder, and said, "To the next light."

My dad's friend said, "That rusted thing? No way, waste of time. You don't stand a chance." And laughed again. This made the guy in the stang madder as heck, and when the light turned green, the stang floored it and took off in a cloud of smoke while my dad and his buddy accelerated as usual.

Lo and behold, a cop was watching the whole entire thing, pulled the Stang over just BEFORE the next light, and as my dad and friend were passing a few seconds later they honked and waved as they crossed the next light first. smile.gif.

So yeah, I agree with Sassy Sue, sometimes strategic winning can be as much of a good story as killing 'em!!
SassySue09
I managed to get two ricers the past couple of days like that. One the other day at a light in the next town over from where I live. He kept revving at me, but I saw the cop across the intersection and thought no way. So I "goosed" it alittle and sure enough he took off. Cop got him.

Then last night I was out driving around seeing if I could get anyone to play. I figured with 2 Slow 2 Ridiculous (aka 2 Fast 2 Furious) opening the ricers would be out and I was right. I had fun with a couple of them then the opportunity struck again. hehe Him and I were first in line at the light. I always look around first to see who may be sitting across the intersection. Well there in the outside lane a couple of cars back was a cop. I knew the ricer didn't see him because he was too busy revving at me trying to get my attention. Well, I revved it back at him just a little and you could see his eyes light up (figured he had a race on). The light turned green I gave it just enough gas to get up to speed, but he took off! I didn't think a cop could make a u-turn like that but he sure did. He flew by me like I was parked. hehe Needless to say a little bit up the road he had the ricer pulled over and out of his car writting him a ticket. I just smiled as I drove by doing the speed limit but boy did I get a dirty look from that ricer. laugh.gif That'll teach him to pay attention to the other cars around him. biggrin.gif
Blackbird Jon
This is just a little one, but it still fits the category. Being my first night out and about with the new ride, I had to test whether or not it had some traction control wink.gif . I really didn't get on it very hard, but when I dropped my buddy off at his house I stepped on both pedals, got the smoke rolling pretty well, let off the brake, and fishtailed it up the road for about 60-70'. There is a street light in front of his house, so the smoke showed up nicely as I drove away.

i have some fun weekends in my bird messing around with little kids in their mustangs trying to show off their dates lol vacant parking lots scream for me to do doughnuts burnouts slides hand brake slides its fun a friend has a camera im gonna ask him see if we can make a video of some of the moves we throw and give all of you my best buddys lol a preview of my bird and the upcoming work on it....

Here's probably my funniest story. My girlfriend had never driven a stick before, so I was slowly teaching her in my car. It's real easy to drive, and she couldn't really do any harm to the dual friction, so I taught her, and I was letting her drive it down the "strip" of the town we were in, there's like 30 stoplights on a four lane road(two each way) anyways, there were tons of people cruising, and at one light, this GT Stang pulls up, and starts piping us, she knew how to drive my car, but would not have been able to race the dude, so she didn't do anything, and when the light turned green, he launched it, and she just idled away.... well at the next light, we caught up to him, and I say to her, "trade me spots real quick." So while the dude in the Mustang is sitting there watching, we get out and trade spots right on the street, as soon as I shut the driver's door, I put it in gear and let him hear six and a half grand and gave him a nice, big smile, needless to say, he idled away that time.
MAVERICK_TKR
nice....the other night a 4 banger pulled up near me and started reving his little fart can trying to show off to his girlfriends...so i reved up my new exhaust needless to say he idle away at the light next one that came i just let him cross the intersection and passed him leaving him like at least 6-8 cars....on the next one the gf rolled down the window and asked me for my number lmao...i gave it too her as she got the last digits the guy sped through the redlight lol
Dusty
Hahahahahahaa, good one TKR, YES!
Formyla
Have you noticed that when you wip a stang they wont pull even with you at the next light? Wont even look your way? unsure.gif How can they drive when they are lookin down in shame? My 20yr old daughter was with me today when I waxed a black one today. Teased him a little on the interstate to get him to try. I told her to look cause he was commin up fast to the left so when he got next to us I looked him in the eye and punched it. I don't think he believed what he saw as we left him like he wasn't movin'. After I got off the go he stayed a respectful distance back. No ego - no go. laugh.gif THAT's FUN!
Two weeks ago as my wife and I entered the interstate a bad rice bike was on the far lane. I poped up to 80 and goosed it a little to see what he would do. He loved it - popped a wheelie at 85mph for about 3 miles. We stayed up with him just to watch. My wife was freeking out. I like to tear it up but -that- I think is a little harrie. ph34r.gif I wonder if a stang could have provoked him? Kinda like the neon? biggrin.gif
Blackbird Jon
OK, I left the strip last night with a fairly consistent car, but in all honesty, it just doesn't feel too SOTP fast. I wanted to feel something from it before I got home, so I stopped at a T intersection near home and started power-braking. Got 'em spinning and smoking, then I let off the brakes and cut the wheel to the left. I went easy and controlled on my first loop, but I kept it going and even gave it some more gas so that the second one was really fast and extra smoky by then. Almost a perfect 2 rotations in the intersection later I corrected and left some S shaped parallels headed down the road. I even went by there and checked them out this morning and they look GOOD!!! I'm gonna do some more and record them so I can see it happening from outside of the car.
MAVERICK_TKR
laugh.gif man dats sweet.....today when i was driving to my recruiters office (going to the navy) a ricer pulled up to me....i wasnt in the best of mood mad.gif to race....i was tired hungover and pissed cause my recruiter woke me up at 10 in the morning when i was dead knocked out...n e ways....the ricer starts to rev up his fart can as he reved the can to the highest rpm i start a burnout and smoke the tires ph34r.gif ....i stoped as the light turned green he looked me in the eye and i sped off leaving him behind
Blackbird Jon
Yesterday it rained like cats and dogs, so it made for little traction and lots of playtime rolleyes.gif ! It is sooooo easy to sling these cars around in the wet without tearing things up too much. Anyway, I saw a mid '90s black T/A in the parking lot of a local mall where I had stopped to juice the ATM. The driver was getting in his car at the same time I was getting in mine(both have 30 day tags), and wouldn't you know it, he gets right in behind me leaving the lot. As I was pulling out, I got on the go pedal just hard enough to toss the back end out to the left a little, and he follwed suit except with a lot more emphasis. Traffic was holding me back from running it hard and seeing if he would stay up with me. However, he was having quite the time behind me lagging back, stomping on it and running up on me, then doing it all over again and again for about 3 miles. Once the car in front of me turned off it was my turn and I made the most of it. From about a 35mph roll, I got on the gas and my auto kicked down into second. I held it at about a steady 4,000rpm as the rear tires had very little traction. I started twitching the wheel back and forth(doesn't take much in this situation) and taking up the whole wet road as I fishtailed for several hundred feet biggrin.gif !!! Hey, not only was it fun, but I also was pushing towards the limits of car control and learning more and more what it felt like to be on the edge the whole time! At the next light, the guy(about 18 or 19) pulled up beside me to turn left where I was going straight and started clapping his hands in appreciation of my exhibition. I'm glad he got to see it and I got to do it! Maybe next time I'll have time to stop and talk to the fellow 'bird driver cool.gif
Blackbird Jon
I'm telling you people, enjoy these cars while you can, even if it is something small like my actions yesterday. It rained here again, so I let the rear end sling a little here and there, nothing too extreme wink.gif , don't want to tear anything up! When I arrived back home, I noticed my neighbor(drives a late '80s Z28) from across the street watching me coming down the road. My landlord is pissy about tire spiining kind-of stuff, so I don't light them up on my road. However, with the neighbor watching and the sun just popping out, I couldn't resist celebrating a little bit. As I put it into reverse the neighbor made small circles with his index fingers as if to say "turn 'em over." Backing into my driveway I laid on the brakes hard, the gas a little harder, and lit 'em up ph34r.gif biggrin.gif cool.gif !!! The pavement was damp so the marks were light(no landlord hassles) and it still gave me that sweet sight and smell of burnt rubber - gotta love that!!!!!! laugh.gif rolleyes.gif
SassySue09
BBJ you're having waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy too much fun with that new car of yours!! laugh.gif laugh.gif biggrin.gif
RowdiRodi
You guys (and your gals) sound like you've been having fun. I just recently (2 days ago) aquired my first ever FIREBIRD FORMULA. I'm quite excited about it all, now I just gotta sell the ole 71 Cutlass and put my proceeds right back into the BIRD. But I do have one story already....

Me and my brother were stopping to get a bite to eat at McD's. Coming out of the lot a newer GT decided he wanted me to listen to his exhaust as he rolled by doing about 15 coming from an intersection to my left. Needless to say, all was quite after I decided to let loose right as I pulled up to his door with my tail end shaking like a finger in disapprovement. And that was that.
Blackbird Jon
That's right RowdiRodi, you gotta show the 'stangs who is boss in your hot car! Just try and make sure the po-po isn't watching from around the corner dry.gif . As I was going home yesterday, I came up behind a mid-80s Z28 going down this 4 lane highway. When I got near him, he kicked it and started weaving through traffic. I never meant for him to feel threatened and I certainly wasn't going to go bonzai through traffic like him, but low and behold he turned off down the same side road as me so I got to run up on him again. Once again he tried to accelerate away from me, but no such luck this time. I let him have a little room, then planted the go pedal and ran up on him. I hit about 110 to catch him, then had to slow to about 90 to keep from running him over. He never let off and continued his pace after I backed off. I still hadn't had enough fun, so a couple miles down the road I chased him down one more again, except this time through some turns. At the next straight section he stomped it again and tried to leave me, but I didn't even have to go to WOT to keep up with his pace up to about 110. All too soon came my turn to my house, but I did give him a thumbs up through the t-top just because he was another f-body owner not scared to put his car through it's paces the way they were meant to be driven biggrin.gif
MAVERICK_TKR
well today i was driving home and a ricer got on my behind....so i decided to put some smoke in his face....did the burnout....backed off right away
Blackbird Jon
I was at it again yesterday, you know I had to see if the air lid was worth its salt wink.gif and would provide me with some extra "smoke juice." I pulled into a local mall parking lot with the t-tops out and my tire spinning addict cousin riding shotgun. I had to show him what it had, so as I turned left into the lot I kicked it and did a long "S" pattern across the lot. I have a high tread wear rating on my tires, so they don't leave a lot of rubber, but there sure was some squealing going on cool.gif ! My cuz wore a smile afterwards as well wink.gif
Blackbird Jon
OK, so the topic of this thread bit me like it too easily can about 5 weeks ago. While kickin' it around a tight left turn that I know well, I lost it at a mild speed(around 50mph) and spun 270 degrees. What can I say, I just was pushing it a little too hard. I had driven this certain road may times before at similar speeds, but never in the 'bird. As I approached the turn, I let off and braked to be able to get through it. When I first turned the wheel I was neutral(no gas or brake) and the back end started around pretty much instantly. I tried to steer into it, still neutral, but it came around backwards quick dry.gif ! When backwards and still mostly on the pavement, I jumped on the brakes to try to stay on/near the road and to avoid a slope and trees. It worked, I slowed soon enough to only spin a 1/4 more turn, slighlty off the road, and bottomed out on the edge of the slope. Only hit a few sapling trees, so no major damage to the car or me, THANK GOODNESS!!! That's good, clean living for ya' wink.gif laugh.gif !

Anyways, now the car is back right, and yes I'm still enjoying driving it! On last Friday afternoon I came across an older cousin who I don't get to see often enough. He was the one who introduced me to EXTREME STREET about 22 years ago by taking me cruising in his sweet silver with red screaming chicken 1978 T/A 6.6L. At the time I didn't know what was going on when the car got loud sitting still, smoke came up from everywhere, then we went fast ph34r.gif ! I know now though biggrin.gif !!! It was the first time he'd seen me out in my 20 year newer and much faster T/A, so I had to show him a little bit of what it's got. I turned right at a gentle pace, then got all over it just before coming back straight. You Know!!!! That was fun, can' wait until the next time we talk to see what he thought of it!
SassySue09
BBJ is back in action. laugh.gif You have way too much fun in that car of yours. Hope you put on a good show for him.
charles
Heh, heh, heh, heh, heh....boyz will be..... smile.gif
Blackbird Jon
OK, got a couple recent good ones. I do have to say that the spin chilled me out somewhat and I haven't been pushing it anywhere near as hard at speed. However, burnouts are slow so I've been enjoying burning these pitiful Goodyear Eagle HPs off here and there ph34r.gif rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif ph34r.gif ! Two days ago, I was leaving a local Wendy's when I just felt like sliding it around in the wet parking lot. I just kind of laid on the throttle heavy to get 'em loose and steered into a gentle slow drift for a couple of seconds and let it come back straight nice and easy. I consider that fun and classy smile.gif cool.gif smile.gif . Then yesterday I saw a buddy in his Mustang across the intersection at a light. I knew it was coming from him, so I joined him and stomped on it when the light turned green. we both just kinda hazed 'em off as first gear wound up, but neither of us ran it up to any speed. I thought it was cool anyways...
RamAirThree
Once in a while for old time sake I endulge myself with a Rockford files manuever.
You know the one where he floors it in reverse and slams the car into a reverse 180 degree turn while slaming it into a foward gear and pulling out with a hole shot
showing the posi trac. cool.gif hehehe...Be right back... wink.gif

i have a story thats both funny and sad at the same time. My good friend drives a (i think) 2001 dodge neon. not the r/t but just a regular. well he had his car about 6 months before i bought mine and had been steady modifying it. he would always make comments about going at it but i was still basically learning how to drive the car. (first muscle car) one day we were crusin along and i had my girlfriend in my car and he had his girlfriend in his plus my brother and my other friend. so we pull up to a light and he say lets go for it and i was like alright why not , knowing that there was no contest. so the light turns and i pull about 4 lengths on him right away, well just then i see an unmarked squad turn right behind us. so i let off the gas quickly thinking that im about to get pulled over just as my friend goes flying past me. well needless to say the cop speeds around me and chases him. he ended up getting tickets for doing like 90 in a 40 zone and reckless driving. i talked to him when he finally showed up and was like dude didnt you think something was up when i let off the gas so soon. he just said he had no idea what i was doing. i think those tickets cost him upwards to 200 bucks and i havent heard anything from him about racing me since. i still feel bad about that one because i wasted him and he paid a lot of money plus the fact that hes my friend dosnt help.

Dude, 90 in a 40 ...... ahhh to be young again, cool.gif don't feel bad because your friend got off cheap, believe me, by me they would have locked you both up and confiscated your cars for wreckless indangerment and unlawful drag racing and that sucks, So just consider it as teaching your friend a good lesson that just might save his life. A friend of mine got hit with that and it cost him like 10 grand I think between the lawyer and fines, and when he got his car back (which he almost didn't) they stripped it of anything they considered illegal for the street. wink.gif But I guess you have to admit even with feeling bad about your friend, didn't you love the rush knowing you where whooping him. smile.gif

i was goin home from a friends house in the bird and when i hit this straight away not payin attention this Olds. Aurora 4.0 v-8 flys past me. I was like ...ok. so when we got the the light there was a bunch of traffic so i pulled to the less crowded line and was 2nd. he then pull the form the other line behind me and got real close to my bumper. when the light turned green with no where to go i started out slow with him ridin my bumper hard. i was just waitin for an openin so when the car in front of me decided to turn left i slowed with him and then when my lane was clear opend up and left the olds wonderin what happened. He tried to catch up cause i saw his front end lift up when i took off but there was no hope. when we got to the next light he looked at me and shook his head i just laughed at him and turned on to my street.

another story but this one not quite as good. im drivin down the road and i catch up with traffic and whats in front of me a silver 2002 saleen mustang. My friends in the car start talkin and stuff so i pull next to him and pass him not fast at all so ofcourse hes a kid my age and pulls behind me. i get in the lane next to him after passin people so we got some room. we stayed goin the same speed for a while me a little bit in fornt of him. so after awhile of that i got tierd of watchin for him and just took my eeyes off him then he dropped gears and took off he got his back bumper to my door before i stomped on it and then he let offso i flew past him and then stopped but i was turnin so there was no more to that. Im glad it wasnt more embarrasin then that

There is a bridge and adjacent straightaway near my home where I enjoy toasting the hides every once in a while. Since I left the first few sets of parallels on the bridge over a year ago in my '93, others have joined in the fun. Never actually saw anybody, but it is close enough to hear rolleyes.gif , and obviously I see the results when I drive by. I want to own this stretch of blacked up pavement, so that means I must keep topping others' attempts to make my marks not look so spectacular. A donut on the bridge would be great, but I don't know if I can sling it around in that tight a confines yet. There is enough room, it is just I don't have the confidence that I won't hit the concrete along the sides of the bridge yet. Therefore, I first want to conquer the bridge first by leaving the first set of posi's all the way across. There is already a single mark spanning the about 200' feet worth of bridge, but mine will leave 2 if I can keep it spiining the entire length. That has been the problem though. Just Saturday afternoon I tried for the whole length of it, but I only got about halfway across when the motor just revved out to the cutoff and stopped spinning the tires. I find it very hard to balance the throttle just right. Too heavy and it hits that fuel cut-out, too light and it just quits turning them over. Any suggestions?

ok, all I have to say is 3 (count em 3) tickets in one day when I was 17.

1) 55 in a 20MPH zone. I was sliding the car sideways at the time past a parked motorcycle cop.

2) 80 in a 45 on a 2 lane road heading into Boston. (storrow drive)

3) harsh and objectionable noise (laying a total patch in a parking lot and a cop watching)

I had a 72 Nova at the time.

never lost my liscence or anything.

In Mas you get a drivers step point You start at 15 and get pints added as you get tickets. I was a 33 lol

I am now finally back to a 15 after al lthese years.

Been nearly a month since I've posted here, shouldn't have been because it has been an extreme driving 4 weeks for sure! The proof is in whats left of the rear skins wink.gif . New ones this week to go along with the exhaust. Anyway, the talk the last few days around car circles is 05 'stang this and that, and even several others have been talked about around here a bit. Well today I got to "extreme country road" with a late model GT convertible. As I came to the end of my street to turn onto the country road that leads to the highway about 4 miles away, the mustang comes down the road. I fall in behind but run it up to 90 pretty quick to catch up. Thing is, when I was doing 90 about 7-8 cars back, I wasn't gaining ground anymore. We came up on a turn, and when I saw they weren't braking for it I knew we were kickin' it for sure biggrin.gif ph34r.gif ! For about the next 2 miles we ran 'em pretty quick! Then we finally came up on a car and had to slow. I drifted a little ways back when we had to slow to the speed limit so I could kick it and get it swirly when it tached up first. Did it in a light smoky haze and ran up on the bumper of the 'stang to see something a little suprising in its rear view, a girl smiling back at me! I gave her two thumbs up and she sooned turned into a driveway before the highway. It was a fun little drive though, I'm always in a better mood if I get to do something like that at least once a day!!!

Im new to these forums, just signed up today! I have a few stories of extreme street, but mostly in my 'Vette. I am the proud owner of a 73 L82 corvette with 4.11 and muncie M22 trans. My wife's car is a 73 Firebird formula 400. We both play around alot and I win all the time against her, but she keeps up well!! Anyway...I am on the Monterey Bay and dont have too many places to "play" without attracting some police attention!! I was headed home after the first night of Cherries Jubilee carshow and a late 80s 5.0 decided he wanted to race me! At the first light, I was stopped and he was coming up to the light when it went green. All I heard was the car fly past me followed by a supra convertable with people yelling at me. I could not let that go unchecked, so I nailed the throttle and caught him at the next light. Well, he revs up and the supra revs on me and they all shout to the stang "smoke his a$$"!! Light goes green and I bring the revs to about 2800 and dump the clutch. Get a little tire noise, but GREAT hookup and totally smoke the stang in first, then hit second and was already a car ahead. At the next light, i was almost 3 cars ahead. When they rolled up I shouted out "smoke WHO'S A$$" and let a nice smokey burn out go!!

I have had alot of that in my 'Vette before I changed exhaust, now I barely ever get to race. The wife gets races all the time and does well with her bird!

Anyway!! Great site!!

A friend and I went looking for cars for him last night at the local dealerships. He wants some luxury, some sort of nice 4 door with some room. He is leaning towards a Lincoln LS, but I was trying to find something else that may peak his interests. I showed him the Hemi powered Dodge wagon thing(can't remember its name) as an alternative, even though it is not in the same class as the LS. I like them somewhat style-wise, but motor-wise, what a wagon!!! Anyway, as we were leaving, he asks if the Dodge would whip my car, I said no, but it would be closer than one might expect. I told him no matter, the RWD wagon with 350hp would be way more fun to drive than the LS. Speaking of fun, I also told him to hang on... turned left out of the Dodge dealer, right foot went to floor as I straightened it up biggrin.gif ! Rear end broke loose out to the right, then swung back to the left. Much tire spin at 4-5 grand on the tach, and it clicked into second. Lovin' my shift kit now too because it just keeps shredding the tires after a very fast shift(manuals only wish they sould shift like this!) and second screams me wayyyyy up the road still letting the tail dangle out to that left side. Went like that past the used lot next door and halfway by the next lot, the one with the blue oval sign. I had to lift, running out of room, but I let another experience what I consider the most fun about our cars and in doing so left a couple hundred feet worth of posi for the Dodge to shoot for whenever it leaves the lot wink.gif ph34r.gif smile.gif
