Full Version: How should I launch?

I've never actually raced anyone in the 10 months I've had my car, but I've never been taught how to launch either. Can anyone give me a few pointers? Mines a 6-speed, btw. biggrin.gif

My best times at the strip on street tires were launching at about 22-2500 rpm. Right when it starts to grab traction, stomp on it. Trying to launch without wheel spin kills the 60' times and drops the 1/4 mile et's by a few tenths. Thats my experiance with it and I tried all kinds of way to launch it to.

wind the motor to about 2000-25000, then pull your left towrads you and push your right foot to the floor at the same time. you'll probably leave a nice cloud of tire smoke behind you but girls love smokey burnouts

Not the one that matters. blink.gif My wife gets mad at me when I lose traction. (I do it anyway, once in a while.)

Maybe if you let her know when it is coming she could enjoy it more Shaun. My gf doesn't like me kickin' it around too much either, so I just promised to tell her from now on when the "need for speed" attacks me so I she can hang on and not get slung around too much.

As for getting traction Steve, listen to those veterans, I'm sure they know what's up. Remember too that with a set of good drag radials on the back rims that traction is even easier to find and you might even be able to launch with a few more revs.

Nah, she just doesn't like the feeling of the loss of traction (or what she thinks is a loss of control). Once in a while, she doesn't mind. I've even had her rip them off once. (I was so proud!)
