Goin' to the Year One Bristol Bash in a few weeks and plan to run a few times in the test n tune sessions. My dad, an old racer from the 60's, says I should drop my rear tires to 20 psi before I run. Is this a good idea? I've got new GS-C's on my car.

When I had street tires on mine I tried to lower the pressure to. To me it seemed worse,my 60' times were slower. However, with the DR's on it now 20 psi does good. I guess it all depends on the tire itself. My advise, take a tire gauge and try it. The track should have an air compressor to air them back up when your done.

I agree, too low a psi on street treads can have negative effects. My experience says stay above thirty, but no matter what, I know that making sure the front tires are at maximum pressure will reduce rolling friction improving your car's ability to go fast.

I run E/T Streets on the back with about 15-18 psi and my regular tires on the front with about 40 psi.
