OK, before I head to the track for the first time this weekend at Bristol, I have another question.
With street tires at what RPM should I launch at? I heard 2800, and that sounds good to me. I won't have much chance to practice, so I was wondering what y'all think.
Also, should I shift at redline, or a few hundred short? I've heard the latter is better for some reason.

Your LS1 car doesn't have the torque off the very bottom that an LT1 car has so try 2500 rpm's. Right when the tires grab,stomp it to the floor. This works well for me at least. Of course,that LS1 has a wicked upper end pull that more than makes up for a small torque deficite! I've tried several approaches to my launch. I tried to ease out so it wouldn't spin and the 60' times were terrible,as well as my e.t.'s. I also tried it launching harder with the same results. 2500 seemed to be close but you will have to try it different ways to figure out what works best with your motor/tire combo. With drag radials and 3:42 gears I have to launch at 4000 or it will bog.With the 3:73's in it now I have better luck launching at around 3000-3500. It's a fine line between bog and spin with the DR's.
If you let off the gas a tad while shifting,take it to red line! If your a good speed shifter and can slam them with authority shift about 300 rpms short of redline. I'm a throttle blipper cause I dont want to risk tearing my car up.

Should have bought an automatic, they are the best trannies (in my opinion

) for straight line acceleration. I use a th350 in my 78 camaro, with a manual valve body.

An auto takes up more driveline power from the motor.But a good set up is hard to beat.

Dont get me wrong manual transmisions are fun as hell to drive on the street, but I built my camaro to overcome the automatic, and will continue to look for more hp at the rear wheels.

Also, drop your rear tire pressure to 18-20 psi. This will definitely reduce tire spin and drop your e.t.
