I am running on a IBM Netvista box with a pentium III 866mhz with 256 mb of ram. An ATA 133 PCI controller is feeding a Maxtor 40 gig 7200 RPM harddrive with a ATI Radion 7000 PCI video card with 64 megs of ram powering a 19inch hitachi monitor. This monitor is one of two that is included in my duel monitor setup used by my windows XP box. I have a belkin KVM switching my hitachi from windows and Linux.. my primary 19inch monitor is used for my winXP box.
On the main server, I setup a sub domain called dev.theformulasource.com and pointed all traffic to that subdomain to my IP at home. On my router I set up port forwarding on 80 and am having my Netvista PC listen to all packets recieved.
Now more on the Netvista.
For the OS I am running RedHat Linux 8 server install and compiled PHP, mySQL and Apache from binary source.. I compiled them together so they work seamlessly. This is the exact copy-cat setup that the main website runs on.. so the envirment is exactly identical as this one so migrating the new site on to this server will be a breeze needless to say and will make final debugging virtually painless..
I installed Samba on my Linux box so I can develop on my windows machine and drag and drop to my linux's web document root.
if you go to
dev.theformulasource.com
you will actally be browsing the new website that is running on a webserver sitting just inches away from me as I work on it from the comfort of my own home...
It might be slow at times due to the fact of limited up speed bandwidth my cable provider gives me (384k) but as long as 10 or more users are not browsing heavy at the same time.. it should be pretty transparent..
oh well.. Im done.. for now!!!
