I don't know about everyone else here, but in the members profiles I'd like to see several sections that would have to be filled in when you register rather then having them be voluntary fill in sections. One of them I'd like to see be done that way is the location section, that way we know where everyone is at so we could possibly send them to local stores, shops, etc if they need to go there. Plus with members here from outside the US that would help since it wouldn't make sense telling someone who lives say in Canada or Europe to go to their local Advance Auto Parts or AutoZone since they don't have those. I'd also like to see a section where the year of their car along with any mods done to it are listed that comes up automatically whenever a post is done. It would sure be alot easier to help members diagnose and fix any problem they may post about if that was always in a post then alot of the time having to ask what year and mods they have before we can help them.

I agree Sue... i will pin this so i will remember to add this feature...

Year Yes, Mods Optional?
Not everyone wants the world to know that they have 100hp stickers or that their baby is on the bottle laugh.gif

I've always thought that more info was needed when registering here. It would help eliminate some of the buttholes we get from time to time if they knew we knew who they were and where they are. Thier real names and e-mail addresses AND home towns should be avalible to at least the moderators. These items should be required info before they can be a member.
formula90
it may be a requirment but could easily be faked.. I think this option is good for getting more information to beter help members..
Formyla
Lots of the time they post a WWW and it tells on them ohmy.gif
If I post my few mods the Ford boys at work will see them and wont run me any more sad.gif
Right now they think "It was just a fluke" "lucky" etc..... He he he ph34r.gif

They wouldn't be able to fake the e-mail if they had to have it to get thier log-in password biggrin.gif

The last time I checked Tyler that is what is happening now.

I have everyones real email address regardless if they want to show it on the forum or not.

It would be nice to search by state. Maybe find new formula friends.
formula90
sounds good... will be rolled into the new version smile.gif
SassySue09
Jon, on the region area you added you might want to add one more area to the list - Outside of U.S. or something similar. That could be for the members who live in Canada, Europe, etc.
FastLT1
What happened to searching members by state?
formula90
good idea Sue.. will do..

and as for searching by state.. I will check into this.. should b easy now that it is a profile field...
FastLT1
I like the idea of it being required.
FastLT1
Don't know which regions include which states. Need definitions. But would perfer by each state. Thanks.
formula90
there is already a field called "location" for this. but that is within the profile.. but I could make it part of each post as well.. smile.gif

also.. how out a place to put mods.. I see it in everyones signature.. just a thought..
FastLT1
Almost everyone is doing it in there sig anyway. So you are saying it would do it automaticially. Cool. I think instead of region State would be better. Just my 2 cents.
formula90
no.. what I am trying to say is.. region would be the region you live in especially if you belong to a regional club.. location is different and that you could actaully put your city and state you live in.. and I am afraid that I would not be able to make that mandatory becasue some people like their privacy.. smile.gif

although.. I could make the region a mandotary form field.. if we keep it regional that is..

but, if we do goto a state format, then not only would there be a huge drop down box containing 50 states.. there would also have to be other countries as well... instead of regional.

The reason why we wanted a regional option ios becasue for some people that wanted to maybe ship a part.. or tell someone eabout a auto show.. they would not suggest to someone that lives in the northern region where the auto show is being condusted in the soutern region..

but, by all means, this could all change.. if you feel there is a more organized way of bring this together.. i am all ears..

so far.. we have a regional drop down selection.. where a member volunteers the regional info where they live.. this is located in the profile, and in the forum post area..

also, there is a location filed.. that is a text input where a member can input what they want.. if they want.. this is only located in the profile..

so.. there you have it.. i am flexible.. what should be shown where? and would it be a mandatory field, or optional..

If we keep the regional this. Could a list or map be there to let us know which states are included in which regions. I know florida and Maine. But us in the middle??????
formula90
ok. I am not the most knowlegeable in the regions... if someone could post up a region by region list like
  • Southern Region
  • - Texas
  • - Arkansas
  • - Oklahoma
  • etc
then i could make a pop up window with a US map color coded for each region to make this easier..

there has to be some pre determined map already in existance to go by..

post this here.. and i will go to work on this..

the seccond image consists of a little more farmiliar division to me...

NW, SW, Mid-West, South-Central, NE and SE with North Carolina and VA being the dividing line b/w NE and SE.... unlike the 1st one that goes all the way up to WVA and MD being the division.... so I say go with the seccond one to define the regions... Hope this helps...
