Wednesday night I simply needed drinks and smokes from the store, so I headed out for a short, uneventful trip. As I'm leaving, a buddy of mine saw me and pulled out from a store across the road from me and fell in behind. I had to get on the interstate for about 1 mile on the way home, and he followed me down the ramp very closely. He drives a mostly stock '96 Z28. I got on it a little while he was tight on me, then let off to let him regain what ground he had lost when I gooched it. Just then I saw his lights lift with the weight transfer from him applying throttle, so I was right back on it. From about a 30mph roll all I did was put even more space between he and I up to about 100mph. I slowed, he pulled along-side, gave me a thumbs up and we went our seperate ways. As always it was fun, but it is the most fun when you win wink.gif smile.gif !!!

So I'm smiling riding on home with yet another mark in the win column thinking I wonder how long it will be before I get to do it again. The late model GT 'stang that decided to fly up behind me on the 4 lane highway headed toward my house made that time come sooner than expected. He flew up, I was expecting to get a laugh as he did his best "ricer fly-by." Then he pulled beside of me, slowed, and then jumped at me one good time. I pulled it down into 2, the revs came up big time biggrin.gif ph34r.gif , and he knew it was on because the LM was screaming at him! He went, but it took NO TIME from a 45mph roll for the 'bird to chase him down and put at least a car on him before it came time to hit 3. I went ahead and let it scream well over 100 this time just to see when/if he would ever quit trying to get back up even. We know it ain't gonna happen, but I guess he thought it would. One thing is for sure, he knows better now! We stopped and talked briefly and he asked what all had been done to mine. I told him very little and he said I was lying, there was no way that thing could beat his 4.6 5-speed that bad. He said he stayed in it to over 100mph too, so I know he tried for a while, but all that was really happening was my smile getting bigger and the 'stang kept getting smaller in the rear-view. It was fun!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif ph34r.gif smile.gif cool.gif

I like it when they think "there must be alot done to your car" and say it. Poor guy,in a state of denial. Good kill.
Formyla
Yea - good kill!
On the way into work one day, I wuped a guy I work withs GT. He's been pissed ever since and refuses to take his rustang to the track with us smile.gif
fatniclan
formulas are GT killers...they should learn
SassySue09
Good kills there Jon. Sounds like you had alot of fun playing with that GT. cool.gif ph34r.gif As for the Z, doesn't he know better by now then to try and beat you. laugh.gif laugh.gif biggrin.gif
Blackbird Jon
I've seen the Z's tailights before in a street race, but that was several mods ago wink.gif . Plus, I only saw them once when he got the better jump on me, with his 6-speed it is easier for him to find the good rev range and he got me by about a car to about 120 from a roll before. I didn't downshift, let the auto do it itself, and the time it took to go from OD to 2 is the only reason he took me before from a roll. None of that weakness this time, I was primed and pumped ready to get him as I saw him following so close down the ramp.

I always give the car due credit since it is actually doing most all the work, but the people in denial do it a different way. They give the car credit and act like I'm hiding a bottle or something with it. No matter, I know the truth. The guy that lives right across the street from me has a '98 GT, and he brags to me about smacking around ricer punks. I've invited him to line 'em up with me, but he won't. He knows better, in fact, he said he is ready to trade in his "toy" and get a real musclecar. He asked me if I would be offended if he went out and got a car very similar to mine, and I said of course not, I'd love to see another 'bird go to roost in the neighborhood.

Well its a nice kill and all, but heck Stang GTs are extremely easy to beat. So i wouldnt be too happy bout that BUT those z cars are hard to kill. As for the GT like i said ive beat one in a V6 olds before hehe..they arent fast... smile.gif

Not too happy about putting space between my T/A and a sportscar that was in a better position to race than I was and he got the head start too!??????????!!!!! You kidding me? You know not of what you speak. A '00 GT will take most anything on the road, and in the hands of a skilled driver beat a lesser driver in more car(like inexperience in a tire spinnin' LS1). I've been there, took my lumps, and now am really learning the ways to get the most out of my car and any given situation. That's why I'm happy about a win, I've earned it.

V6 olds - anything can be built, what was it shooting a 3 stage Need for Speed gas kit with turbos? I don't know of the olds V6 that could have beat that GT the other night in the hands of any driver unless the olds knocked the GT off the road. Where-ever it is, and I'm sure there is more than one out there, it is nothing close to stock rest assured.

What a joke!!!!! biggrin.gif rolleyes.gif ph34r.gif

Blackbird,

Are you talking about a 2000 mustang GT? If so, I would have to disagree. My cousin has one and I drive it all the time. Not very impressive to say the least and I doub't it can take most anything on the road! My stock 94 formula had a lot more power than the 00 GT.

Sure the 'stang seems like nothing after driving your Formula, and sure your stock 'bird had more power. Your opinions are no different than mine, I've driven more than one(not all '00s, but both mods and old 5.0s) myself. Autos and manuals. Heck, most all colors cool.gif . Every last one of them, fake scoops and all, would beat most anything on the road. That's most anything, not most any f-body. How many f-bodies, or sportscars in general do you see out on the road regularly? I bet on a stock GT to beat everything else on the Ford lot other than the rarely seen Lighting. Only one car on the Honda lot can mess with it, nearly $40K worth of high strung 2-seater S2000. Nothing on the Toyota lot, and only the Hemi Dodges and probably the turbo Neon(fast as you can go for the money off the showroom floor right now). Get my drift rolleyes.gif ...

It is not the sportscar for me, but it is an American made V8 RWD sportscar that can boil the rear hides! I've beat 'stangs that have many mods as opposed to my lid and cat-back only 'bird, most at the strip where traction is not as hard to find. I've never had very good tires so traction is very hard to come by on the street. Learning to gently apply throttle has been hard to do with my lead foot, but I'm much better now wink.gif .

My cousins is a 02 GT, 5 speed. I thought it was a 00, but it is a 02. Thought I would make that correction. I drive it a lot . Anyway, we are on the same page and I get what you are saying.

I know some people dislike Ford's for whatever reason. I like anything that is V8 RWD. I like Dodges,AMC's,Chevys,Olds,Buicks,....the list goes on. I just happen to love Pontiac's.That doesn't mean they are the best. But for me they are cause I like them that way. Perjudice is an evil thing. Learn to respect the V8 brethren out there....DOWN WITH THE TASTLESS RICERS!!!!! biggrin.gif
clayton006
I agree with the above statement....

I believe Motor Trend Magazine did a survey last year or sometime recently and asked a teens across the USA what kind of car they wanted......!!!!!

IMPORTS WON!!!!!!!!!!

I was upset... I've only been out of highschool for a year.....
I love American Muscle cars!!! A 2002 WS6 TA is my dream car!!!

What is america coming to?
Dan95
dont know but a firehawk is mine just graduated and workin my asss off for it. a lot of kids at my school loves muscle but imports are still dominating.
fatniclan
damn i just graduated last year...imports just make sense for young kids...gas mileage etc.
93FormulaLT1
Know why imports are so abundant? Cause it is usually the parents buying the cars. Imports have, better gas mileage, better economically, insurance is less and more than likely full-coverage...and they are slugs unless modded so the parents usually feel safer when their kids are in slower cars. I will be turning 18 here in Aug. I bought my formula with my own money...my mom was a little hesitant but my dad loved the car =) so...heee!
BadBird383
Wow I was wondering what my buddy Clayton was talking about when he said he has only been out of highschool for a year this thread is 13 months old???
