The gallery looks awesome......now, how do I play?
formula90
give me about 2 more hours wic.. we are almost at a place where people can upload...

and for technical reasons.. I am having the main categorys not show unless I have one album in it... sobeing that you are a second gen owner.. I hope you have your pics ready..

i will make a new post when this is live with all the details...
formula90

Wiccan1
I clicked on the Website news link went to the gallery from your post about it.

My pics are ready!
formula90
never mind.. i see how you did.. that wont be showing after I am done.. i will explain this later.. but it does give me an idea though.. one that I will implement later after this is stable...
Wiccan1

I know everyone is only able to create one album, have any of you thought about being able to create more but maybe still keep the picture / data amount the same, for instance if you have 3 f bodies, 3 albums with 2 pictures in each so it doesnt go over the quota for each member?

Just wondering i have no problem posting pics of the cars together or something just thought id ask smile.gif

Matt
formula90
well.. unfortunatly.. no.. not at this time.. Maybe when I do the next update for this i will roll this into it.. smile.gif

To tell you the truth.. I wasnt keeping the lucky multi f-body owners in mind when i was coding for this.. wink.gif
Wiccan1
Careful Jon, I see smoke..... laugh.gif
formula90
oh no.. no flames intended at all.. smile.gif If it sounds like this then I apoligize.... smile.gif

this weekend.. look to see the gallery polished and done. I have quite a bit to do with style and images and formatting of some pages. Looks rough round da edges in some places... I might be thinking about upping the image count to 9 instead of 6.. but keeping the 2 meg limit.. this is for the peeps that have more images that are smaller than the high resolution pics... you could of course edit them in your favorite GFX app to tweak it alittle... after all.. the photo will only blow up to 575 pixels wide.. this is to keep the site from exploding when someone uploads the mammoth 1.8 meg super high res photo... I think that is 1600 pixels wide .. so imagine the h and v scrollbars on your screen.. hehehe..

anyways.. I hope everyone is enjoying the gallery.. More kewl features are coming...
Wiccan1
I would like to post a friendly reminder about the gallery.

The gallery is a showcase for Firebirds, if you have any pictures not Firebird related in the gallery, please remove it.

Some (including mine wink.gif ) have been removed by the staff.

This is done to save bandwidth and keep the site true to its design, not to mention it save Formula90 on the cost of bandwidth. cool.gif
formula90
wiccan is correct on this.. Upon creating a album.. it askes which year your formula is.

The gallery was created to showcase Formulas and to show other users what other bodystyles looked like.. When we have a member looking for a 1970 Formula.. when they click on 1970.. we cant have pictures of other cars. If you want to have your pictures displayed.. you can create a free album at www.cardomain.com and you can add the link to your album in your signature like many other members do.

After the owners gallery is polished up this weekend.. the Forum Staff will be browsing member albums and moderating the pictures...

On the upside though... i will be making it possible to get the link to each gallery picture to add to your signature if you like. Also, after much contemplating.. i will also allow outside linking of these images so you may post them on other sites if you belong to them... if the bandwidth becomes and issue, then I will think about a better solution..

I see alot of very good quality photos uploaded to the gallery.. and I am impressed with what I see.. i want you to be able to show off your pride and joy... but we have to keep it Firebird.

If down the road.. we have demand for other users with other cars to be able to upload.. we may create a misc catagory for these. I dont want to shut the door on anyone here.. But this is a Formula site and we cater specifically to the Formula Owner.. Thank you for your understanding..

smile.gif
400hpbird
getting quality photos uploaded is my problem, i seem to have misplaced the originals on my computer or deleted them b/c when i resized them the quality comes out as you see below... not the best. And when i had a good quality pic it was huge so it wouldnt fit in the gallery anyway, gotta mess around with the sizes and quality and see if i cant get a pic thats crystal clear but small enough to upload. smile.gif
formula90
just resizing it in a graphics program reduces the file size, and you retain quality since the image here will not be above 575 pixels wide..

so.. to optimally make your images here look good.. i would resize your images to 575 wide and the height SHOULD also resize correctly if the first variable is used in the width... saving it as a .jpg will be good...
Wiccan1
Jon,

I just noticed the "Click here for URL" button at the bottom of the album pics, very nice!
formula90
thank ya sir

So is it OK that I posted one lonely pic of my '93 amongst my '98 page? I hope so, after all it is the Formula that got me started and was wrongfully taken from me, otherwise I would still be enjoying it instead of the T/A today.
SassySue09
I don't have a problem with it Jon. But what you might want to do is since the Formula you had was a 93 is move everything to the 1993 section. That way the Formie is in the right year, but that's just a suggestion. formula90, what you think?
Formyla
So, were limited to only one gallery?
If you have different years why can't you have a gallery in each year with that car in it? You know - with special permission from the web master smile.gif

Should we have a R.I.P. gallery that anyone can donate too? Would it be too painful?
formula90
hmmm... ya know.. it is sometimes real tough to think ahead on these things when you are coding for it...

I am down for a solution on this...

So what everyone is saying is.. they would like a personal album that they can upload anything that they please... then.. have a structured system that is in place where members can upload their specific year of Formula?

If this is the case, then we would have 2 sections. The Owners Gallery.. and personal member photo albums.

If this is indeed the case.. then I will have to rework quite a few things.

But the other way around.. we couold keep the system we have now.. add.. with alittle help, I could add another area catagorized for members who wish to upload misc pics.. automotive related.. but i dont see why we should create this.. as i feel we would be trying to reinvent the wheel that other sites like cardomain.com do.. they also have advertising and other forms of revenue generating methods to help cover site operation, where as these costs incurred here are out of pocket by me most of the time..

we used to have a section back in 1999-2000 called Formula Graveyard.. basicly was a collection of cars that were dismembered and taken out of service to say the least.. seemed like a popular area if you can believe that... this was always something that I wanted to bring back, but just could not find the time or work it in... at this point really.. the grunt work is done.. and really wouldnt be hard to incorporate into the system now.. smile.gif

ya know BBJ... I really dont have a problem with T/A's.. but, we are a formula Site.

I am beginning to think that maybe I went about this in the wrong way...

SO MUCH WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we need to turn this topic starting NOW into how everyone would like to see this working...

If I understand this correctly... members would like to have the ability to create multiple albums so they may group together photos that belong together right?

My answer to this is YES. This can be done.. but it doesnt matter how many albums you create, the total size of the photos cannot exceed 2 megs.. unless you are willing to become a regular donator.. smile.gif These albums will not be structured in any way shape or form... there will be a catagory called member albums and all member albums will reside in there... so for instance... lets say that Sue creates a album for her 97.. then creates one for her 87.. then, her 98.. she will have 3 albums (of course if she keeps the total size of photos under 2 megs) and they will be listed in the member albums catagory mixed with other members.. so really.. there will not be a structured system for this as all albums will be grouped together. If someone wanted to see all galleried posted by Sue.. they would have to look at her profile, or click the Album link in the forum post areas... Also, at the bottom of each album there would be a link that said (click here to see more albums by this member) or something to that effect.. you could also still get the URL for these photos like the current version.. and stioll manage your albums in your Dashboard Tray...

As for the RIP section AKA Formula Graveyard.. this would be an additional catagory that I could create that would be member contributed... no problem there..

and As for the origanal plan that I had invisioned for this.. It will be structured like NOW except that members will not be allowed to upload phots to the year catagories... only mods... and we will have to assign new positions for this. Maybe 2 at the most Titled Gallery Staff. They will have access to upload photos to each generation of Formula and year...

It is the TOP INPORTANCE AND PRIORITY that This site has a area where members can see EACH year that the formula was made... saving from having to click through pictures of Mustangs and bikes and ahem.. Trans Ams... wink.gif

I saved all of the old photos from the old Gallery so i can upload each year back up again so the Gallery Staff will have a good "base" to work off of. The Staff will be responsible for making sure each photo is what and where it should be and that comments made are made in accordance of the Site rules and the rules we follow when we post.. they will also be responsible for hunting down quality pictures of Formulas to upload...

Each Generation will be found in their respective places on the main site and on the main Owners Gallery page.

please be advised that if this does go into effect, everyone will have to rename there gallery to something "unique" becasue as I have it right now.. they are named by year hence the drop down box you selected from when you created your gallery... but this is no problem.. but will need to be addresses to make your album, or albums more unique...

Now... I am going to go to the nearest corner of my apartment and cry and knock a few holes in the wall... jk... after I am donr.. i will look for some feedback here what what you think of this and if this would be better suited to what our members want and need...

sorry for the long post... smile.gif
have fun
Formyla
Oh no! I didnt mean to stir all this up sad.gif but it looks like you have been thinking about it already dry.gif

It sounds like a great Idea tho!
Hopefully the "Formulas" will come from members if available huh.gif

and Corvettes! ph34r.gif

BTW I am glad we have other GM brothers here too. If someone owns a stang or ricer on the side its ok too but I'm not too crazy about those sites that have single claimed ownership of the "Other Guys Side" kind of car on a regular basis. There are sites for that and the name calling gets ugly sometimes. This place ROCKS! biggrin.gif
SassySue09
Bringing the Formula graveyard back would be a great idea but I would call it something else - maybe something like Our Former Formulas. It could be a place where members could put one pic of the Formulas that they now longer own whether because of accidents or cause of them having to sell them. Just make it a general area without year by year breakdowns and make it so that when a pic is uploaded you put the year in the title and then maybe a brief description of what happened to it, ie sold and a date, accident and a date, etc.

As for other Firebirds that are owned by members here, maybe another gallery titled Our Other Firebirds could be made with similar limits and such as the Owners Gallery is now. But make it so that you could only upload pics in there if you don't have any up in the Owners Gallery or if you have room left over on the 6 pic limit. Examples: BBJ could put all 6 of the pics of his T/A in this album, while I could put say 4 of my Formula up in the Owners Gallery and still be able to put up 2 of my T/A's in this album. I don't know if you'd be able to do anything like that or not.

As for other car pics and other car related pics, I don't think we need them here. Like you said there are other sites out there for pics of our mustangs, ricers, bikes, etc. and if someone wants to post pics of any work they're doing to their cars they can just post them up in a new thread showing them and telling everyone what they're doing.
formula90
work has commenced... gallery will remain open to the public during todays lengthy upgrade...

users will have a maximum of 3 albums, 6 pics per album, .. but with a 2 meg cap overall...this includes uploads in other areas... dont worry.. the software keeps tabs.. wink.gif you may do this now.. also the graveyard area is created, and. the generations have been created as well.. it is messy there right now.. watch out for nails on the floor and falling sheetrock.. its under construction.. smile.gif
400hpbird
ok question is the "our former formulas" section for our past cars we owned or like pics we find of past formulas and their ultimate demise? Just wondering b/c if youre like me and thought it was for our past cars you dont look like the best driver formula 90... smile.gif jk
formula90
hehehehehehe.. no.. just wanted to kick it off with the images I had from a old version of the website... I should clarify that in those pics.....

but to answer your question.. you may post pics of your old car.. or yard cars...
formula90
also another update... All catagories and links are complete.. Now I am going to start tweaking the design alittle...

All Photos have been uploaded for each year as well... check em out...

member profile links and forum posts links have been updated as well.. when you click on them.. it will bring you to a index page listing how many photos if any you have posted in the forums, in the gallery, and have links on the left to your album ( s)..

back to work... smile.gif
formula90
I want to also add that I have enabled photo uploads in the forums.. so you will now not have to use a url to get the image you want.. After uploading a file.. it will show as a link in the post so users with slow connections will not get bogged down...

But to make up for this.. i have once again disabled linking these images to outside websites... since you are able to upload pictures now.. there will be no need to do this for now.. unless someone points it out.. wink.gif
Wiccan1
Sue's suggestion sounds as good as any......Formula 90, I am on my way over with a case of beer and a some music, you deserve it. wink.gif Be there in 2 days, oh wait if I take the bike, I can make it in 8 hours laugh.gif
SassySue09

'stangs and bikes are one thing, but having to flip past a T/A dry.gif Come on, get the priorities straight!

I'm confused about the gallery now, I'm sure I will learn it, but there was no learning needed with the previous set-up, I just put my pics up there. No problem finding them with the old set-up either, but it takes longer to view my album now. No big deal, I'm probably the only person who cares to see it anyway. I understand the year model of FORMULA being of prime importance when going to look for pics on THE FORMULA SOURCE, so now all I want to do is put my '93 pic among the 1993 section and I guess the beautiful T/A pics that I worked so hard on mainly just so I could have them viewed here will be lost deep in the depths of the Member's Gallery where no one will ever have to worry about flipping past them to see some darkened pic of a Formula sitting at a gas station at night mad.gif ph34r.gif

What happens when MxPx69_1984 comes and tries to post some pics of his Formula that looks like a T/A now!

Anyway, if someone can help me get the '93 pic where it belongs now...
SassySue09
Actually BBJ, the album you done isn't lost in the depths of anywhere. It's still right where it was with all the pics you posted in it. Click on the word Gallery at the bottom of any post you've done. A new page will open and you'll see a listing on the left hand side. See 1998 there? Click on that. That will take you right to your album. You can do that with any member here. If you click on Gallery in any members post then click on the year that shows up on the left hand side on the new page that opens you'll go right to the album they've created. You can also create 3 albums now with 6 pics each as long as the total for the pics doesn't excede 2 megs. So post away with pics of your T/A.

As for the Generation galleries, those are going to be more of a tech section then an area that is used to highlight our cars. Those areas are going to be used to post pics of each type of Formula (and only Formulas) that was available from the factory for each year. Hopefully this is what will happen. A pic of each stock exterior/interior color combination with hardtop/t-top/convertible combo and stock rims will be found and one pic of that combo will be posted in the appropriate section - example: 3rd gen section, 1987 model - red exterior/light grey interior/t-tops, red exterior/light grey interior/hardtop, black exterior/grey interior/t-tops, black exterior/grey interior/hardtop, etc. So that way if someone comes here looking for what colors/roof/rims were available for each year all they'll have to do is page thru that year to see what an original stock model looked like. So say if someone comes here and has a 1979 Formula that they are redoing and they need to know what the original stock one looked like they'd only have to go to the 2nd gen gallery, click on 1979 and voila, there would be all the pics they'd need to see to know what theirs should look like. Kind of neat huh?
Blackbird Jon
I understand that if you want to look at any given member's gallery you can access it through their sig, but if you go to Owner's Gallery and then try to navigate it is jumbled up, no organization whatsoever, at least as far as the actual members' albums goes. In the other thread I agreed with the year model organization as the way to go, so I hope to see that implemented if it isn't too much trouble.

While I'm still near the subject, I gotta ask. When you click on Gallery in a sig, the window displays Gallery pics and Images in forum(something like these blink.gif ) above where it gives the year model. I have 0 in each of these. What exactly are these there for?
