My stock 93 ran a 14.52 on a hot day. Your car may be in need of some TLC. Anything been done to it lately? Plugs, wires? How many miles are on it?We can get that into the 14's
guaranteed!

that's almost exactly what I ran last time with my 94. I know how you feel.

With spinning tires all the way through first.

Spinning Tires all the way through first? A couple hundred bucks bucks for drag radials and I bet you knock at least .5 off that.

While thats true, most will run mid-low 14's stock with street tires. The first thing I would do is change all the fluids to synthetics. I know this is not exactly a "tune up" but I bet it needs the rear & tranny serviced. The transmission can be slipping enough to slow you and not be noticable.
I would also replace the plugs if they are original. My 93 ran like a raped ape until top end. Then it would pop and run terrible. Those 100,000 mile plugs were shot at 75,000 miles.Once replaced the car would pull & pull & pull....
A new air filter might be a good idea to.Or a K&N replacement part.
Clean the MAF sensor. Use a can of carb cleaner with one of those little red straws and clean the wires.Be carefull not to damage them.
Lower the tire pressure next time.Try 20 psi and stay OUT of the water box.If your going thru the water box and spinning the tires all that water is thrown up into the fender wells. Then it drips down on the tires at the line.Go around the box, brake jack the car & heat the tires up a bit.
Practice that launch! Every tenth off your 60' time is almost 2 at the other end.If you can get it down to a 2.1 you will trim off .3 at the other end.

Previous 2 posts say it all, there's plenty to go on!!! Literally, go on, go FASTER on! So why am I even writing you ask? To tell you it's not that bad a time. It'd beat my stock '93. Plus it will still do a better burn-out than most any car out there(other than a 350 TPI 3rd gen.

)!!!!

What do you think 255/50R16 BFG drag radials or 26*11.50 MT street ETs?

Both good choices, go for what you think is best!

I can get the BFG for $125 each and the MT are like $150 plus $50 for tube each. Do you think there will be $75 worth of better traction.

I honestly would go wtih Mickey Thompon ET Streets. Those are some great tires. Used to run them on my '93 5.0 and they wouldn't slip when they got hot. My BFGs on my car right now spin up until 3rd gear. Spend the extra money on them. I think I got about 9k-11k miles out of my ET Streets. Your times look very similiar to what I was running in my 5.0. What rpm where you launching at or where you just letting off the brake and going?
Tyler

I put Nitto's on mine. Even launching at 3500 rpm it would bog a bit at the track.4500 works ok

On the street I can cut them loose pretty easy but they are superior to regular street tires. Everyone I know that runs the MT's like them though. Any drag radial will launch better than a standard tire.
Hey V98C,nice to see ya here.Sounds like you have a mean ride. Ever take it to the strip?

Thanks Tyler. I have taken it to a local 1/8 mile track that was just re-done and they laid down fresh concrete. So after telling you that you can guess it wasn't pretty. My best run was a 8.7 @ 8.9mph. I actually have video sitting on my camera still where I had a chic in the car with me and we tried in car video going down the track. Its actually still funny to watch because the camera is all o'er the place. I got traction when I crossed the finish line. Stupid me wasn't running DRs even though my buddy offered them to me to use that night. He actually ended blowing out his spyder gears using those DRs. The car is sick but every car is beatable. I lost $200 against a, what the guy said was a stock SS camaro. I lost by only one car but come to find out he had exhaust, 315 DRs, intake and a nice shot of NOS. I haven't seen the guy since and I probably won't either. I plan on taking the car to the 1/4 after the purchase of a new set of MT ET Streets that will hold the torque. The car is actually supposed to be a mid 11 sec car. A guy with the exact same setup as me is running 10.8s but every race is also skill based and I am not the best driver around.

I'm just letting off the brake and punching it. I believe I'll save for the ET's. I'm just going to run them at the track.

Try bringin the revs up a little see how much that does you before you start spendin money on DR's

When I power brake, it spins worse. I want to be able to power brake it up to about 3 grand and drop the hammer and pick the front tires off the ground. Or at least punch it without spinning. I guess I just need more practice

Hehehehe, it'll take a whole ton more horsepower and torque to bring your front tires off the ground. I'm guessing somewhere in the neighborhood of 600rwhp.
