Full Version: Really bad night at the tracks

Ok, here what's going on. I got 3 runs in, all around 15 even, nothing under 15 though. My RT's weren't bad, it was a .5 light and my last reaction time was best at .191, but all my 60's were around 2.3-2.4. The track altitude may be a part to blame, and it had rained earlier that day, but the track was totally dry, just a little bit humid, and the temp was around 75. The track altitude is 4400 feet, so my time would be quite a bit lower at sea level. But i'm not sure what is exactly wrong with my car. I did have to let off the gas a little bit to shift cause of transmission problems, but nothing else went wrong. My DR's caught extremely well when I warmed them up. I had a tune-up in the last 2 months with pulgs and wires all changed. My motor does have 145k original miles on it, so i'm thinking something is up inside the motor itself. I do need to get a new clutch and flywheel soon, but that's like 600 bucks down the road.

Anyone got any ideas of what's going on with my car, it's acting up when I try to race it like this, and I can't get into the 13's like i should be.

NHRA says at 4400 ft mulitply your ET by .9458 and your mph by 1.0577 That should knock about a second off. Don't feel bad the last time I ran a 15.1 was the best but I'm only at 1500 ft. That corrects to around 14.9.

If you think about it,thats not real bad. Remember, reaction time has nothing to do with the actual 1/4 times. Thats just how long it takes before you start the timer. Also,if you can knock that 60' time down to about a 2.0 you will drop your et by around .5 sec. Figure in a humid day at 4400 feet and I dont see it as being to bad really. And if the car is not shifting just right that can cause you to loose a tiny bit to.

Make sure the throttle opens all the way.Change all your oils to synthetic and dont over fill the motor. Give your car a valve adjustement (@ 144,000 it needs it). Raise the front tire pressure to 40 psi and lower the rear to about 20. Most of all, practice those launches! It needs to spin a bit off the line to keep the car from bogging. With stock gears I launched at 4000+ rpm on DR's!

Pretty bad looking at what mods i've done. And what else do you guys think I should do, and where to get it done?

Oh, and before Tyler, when I was asking what was wrong with my transmission, it was the same problems as yours, the forks or synchrodes are off and need to be replaced. If I did that then i'd probably have no problem with shifting while at WAT.

Those time look like mine. But most of my 60ft times was 2.6. I'd thought your 60ft times would be better with drag radials. I believe your 60ft time is alot of your problem.
