OK ladies and gentlemen: went out to bithlo last night here in Orlando. it was pretty warm and humid last night, and here were my times:

1 2 3 4
RT 1.054 1.056 .797 .856
60' 2.45 2.30 2.43 2.39
1/8th 9.6@77 9.3@78 9.5@77 9.4@79
1/4 14.7@98 14.3@98.6 14.6@98 14.3@99.5

OK, I know my R/T and 60' times suck. I'm aware of that. I ran my normal bridgestone potenza's that have about 35% tread left, went around the water box and did not really warm them up. This is the first time I've been back to the track with my tubular LCA's in the car. first run i dumped the clutch at 2200 and it grabbed too well and I bogged. Next three runs I dumped the clutch at 3200, 3000, and 2800 respectively (didnt get a chance to try 2600). tires spun too much. My best time ever (only been to the track twice) was a 14.2 WITH my Girlfriend in the car and stock LCA's and same street tires. I did lower the air pressure to 25psi in the back. Now I have a comp305 camp, 1.6rr's somewhat ported heads/intake, Moroso CAI, high flow cat, high flow Y pipe, custom tuning. I don't see why this car can't be in the mid 13's. Id love to see it happen with street tires. Any ideas? Problem is, i went with a friend of mine who has a 99 WS6, he has 3.73 gears and cat back exhaust and he was running 13.6, 13.4 all night. Another friend had a new mustang GT with a CAI, he was running 14 flat all night. Another friend with a brand new Corvette Z06, he made a 13.0 flat (must've had his foot on the brake). Another friend with an '03 Cobra and .411 gears ran 13.7's all night. ALL MY FRIENDS BEAT ME!!!!

First I think you need to find a happy rpm to launch at, and that is just trial and error.
When is the last time the car had a tune up? Plugs, wires and such. Also, you may need to check the tuning on the computer, it may be off a bit. With the mods you have, the car should definitely be putting up better times then that.
FastBird94
The car was tuned up last summer. THere aren't any misses or anything. Never been sure if the tuning is completely right, because I've not had it done on a dyno professionally. Done it all myself. I'm sure there is missing HP there. If I could actually find a place around here that would do it for me, then I would get it done professionally.

go to madz28.com The tuning chips and programs he makes are awesome. Some of the best I have seen. I gained 10HP over the custom fastchips I had last. I gained 15RWHP over the hypertech thermomaster. This guys builds awesome programs.

so the question is now, with all of my mods, would a set of mid length headers really be beneficial to lower 1/4 miles times? I've always resisted putting headers on (burnt wires, leaks, etc), but i'm not going to lose to ALL of my friends anymore...

I think it's just the karmic price for being somewhere warm and humid... laugh.gif

(It's 30 degrees and snowy here.)

I wish I could go to the track here in the Chicagoland area. Must be nice to have humidity at this time though. Sure beats the cold.

well, I wouldn't feel too bad. Comparing against a WS6, a Z06 and a Cobra is no easy task. Now I donno about the new mustang GT...is that one an 05? or 04?
Tyler
How much preload is the valve lash set at?
Doug
Headers are a must. 20HP without a doubt! Ceramic coated and you are all set!

Even if you don't beat the other cars you will gain HP and the engine will exhale awesome.

Hey fastbird........where do you live? I'm just north of Orlando in Maitland. Roger Vinci off of W. Colonial is the BEST place to get your car dyno-tuned. Pm me and we'll chat. I've got quite a bit done to my LT1, so you can check it out, and do a little comparing.... wink.gif

You may need additional programming for the cam?? huh.gif
Doug
That is why I add the madz28.com link he does all sorts of tuning for all mods. He is very good.

I don't know, guys, it got a lot cooler today. It's in the 70's here now. Time to break out the sweaters! hahaha

We should have a winter retreat here in Orlando for all the northern birds. They could migrate south!

Gears make a big difference and traction. I air down to 18. Get some 4.10 and sticky tires. You will be looking at low 13s.

I ask again.....
FastBird94
Tyler,

Sorry about the delay. I went through the exact instructions on setting valve lash. 3/4 turn I believe I used. Only thing is, my mechanic was doing some work and he set some of the valves, so I'm not sure about those. You thinking I should check there?
Tyler
My car ran 13.92 at 3/4 lash and 14.20's at 1/8th turn lash. You may want to double check them.
BadBird383
I would be getting a dyno tune and fast with a cam and mild heads you should be trapping over 107 mph easy tire spin or no tire spin. Your engine doesn't seem to be getting the power to the ground like it should.
FastBird94
yeah, i plan on getting it on a dyno as soon as i get my headers put on.
